I also know I could have been more specific in the categories, but this will get us started.

Have fun!

Edit..could not make the poll work, but here are the choices I came Up with:

-Full-Suspension Mountain bike
-Hard-tail/29er
-Hybrid/city Bike
-Cyclocross/Gravel Bike
-Pure Road Bike
-TT/triathalon bike.
Where are:

-- touring bicycle

-- track bicycle

-- endurance/randonneuring/sport-touring bicycle

-- ordinary

-- tandem

-- bent

It is! I've got a sport-touring bicycle. It's like a combination between a racing bicycle and a touring bicycle.

However, you don't necessarily need that type of bicycle for long distance events, you can ride whatever you want.

As I said, the categories can easily be broken down more...

...and I left of recumbents completely, totally on purpose, because they are ugly. :-)

Something like what I have now:

I'm also building an '84 Fuso with modern Athena. Someday I'll get Mike Terraferma here in Miami to build me a nice modern lugged frame

Fixed gear bikes may be single speed but all single speed bikes ARE NOT fixed gear.

Actually, I'm told that Sturmey Archer has a 3-speed fixed gar hub but I've never seen one.

Here we go again.

Fixed gear bikes are not single speed bikes. Single speed bikes have freewheels. Fixed gear bikes do not. It's that simple. They are two different things.

Yet another pet peeve: this should be "NOT ALL single speed bikes are fixed gear" or "SOME single speed bikes ARE NOT fixed gear."
Just sayin'.

Just to be the voice of dissent, I prefer a sexy lowracer over all those tall bikes with the cookie-cutter frames.

I like this frame very much, together with the balloon tyres and wooden fenders. It's quite affordable actually, but it doesn't come in my size, it doesn't look as good with upright handlebars.

I love exotic geometry, such as Pedersen bikes, pastoorsfiets, tall bikes, art bikes and other freakish stuff.

Also I like the sturdy, utilitarian look of cargo bikes and family bikes, but only those with a ton of racks, panniers and child seats on them, not the stretched ones with the wheelbarrow aesthetic.

As for regular frames, the simpler and more allround the better. On pictures naked fixies with slim classic frames look great but they're just too damn impractical for commute riding and some compromises need to be made. Classic black Dutch mens bikes also look timeless.

Competition road bikes I don't dig at all because my interest focus lies on transportation and leisure, not sport. Same for full suspension mountain bikes, they usually look pretty cumbersome and dare I say bumptious.

Classic steel, with lugs, sew up tires and Campagnolo NR/SR components, preferably Italian styled. The three that own will do nicely, thank you very much.
