Custom bicycle decal question (creating)

I recently got into vinyl cutting, and I’m toying with the idea of making custom decals for my bike, or for friends. These will be applied to bikes that have already been factory finished. Any advice on what material to use or what to avoid? I was leaning towards something like Oracal 651. Thanks in advance! (Mods please move if wrong forum)

dsaul, have you left it without coating it? Do you think it would work on bare steel?

Thanks, I appreciate that. That’s what I have. I’ve asked the question, albeit a bit rephrased and even expanded, in the road cycling forum.

All of my frames get lettering cut from Oracal 651 and I have not had any issues with durability. There is no need to clear over it. It will definitely stick to bare steel, but I have never had a reason to use on bare steel.
