Upcoming road closures, East Bay (major detours!)

I've been made aware of some upcoming road work which will cause major impacts to the cycling community due to road closures. First one will be on Happy Valley Road, just east of Bear Creek Road, for a slide repair. Anyone who's ridden this road knows what I'm talking about, metal trench plates over the road and some temporary concrete barriers adjacent to the slide. In order to repair the road, it will require closure starting July 15-October 31.

The other road closure I know about will be on Pinehurst Road, the "north" direction. Road will be closed from the Post Office to the county line (at Skyline) for a culvert repair.

The above link doesn't state the closure dates, but I know that it will be closed from the beginning to the end of the project.

There will be other repairs on other area roads which may or may not lead to closures, I'm not sure about those. Two on Alhambra Valley (west of Castro Ranch and east of Ferndale Rd), and one on Bear Creek Road (the area with the temporary concrete barriers). This summer will be busy with road closures, and some of these would cause major interruptions and detours to cyclists. Be advised and plan alternative routes!

Thanks for the heads-up. It looks like Happy Valley is closed from Bear Creek Rd to the first haripin from this Thursday until Halloween. They are just taking bids on the Pinehurst project (at the lower hairpin north of Canyon Rd and the post office), with a 30 day closure planned for some time this Fall.

As cthenn said, plan ahead, people.

I had to turn around once on Pinehurst this winter when a tree fell over the roadway and work crews were clearing it. It was a 15 mile detour at the end of a long hard ride that sucked...

We should keep a thread like this active all the time for Bay Area road work, I live in the East Bay, so often times don't look into other areas, and wouldn't want to go somewhere far only to run into a detour!

Widening the walkway at 101 and Sir Francis Drake. Looks like they are running cantilevers and at some point it will close to finish path.

Patterson pass getting chipseal'd for the next week or so, they probably use the same rough gravel crap they did on Cross Rd. PP Road race is happening soon too.

Two additional slide repairs, one on AVR near Ferndale (near the east end of Pig Farm Hill), and one on Pinole Valley Rd just west of the Castro Ranch intersection. Looks like Contra Costa is finally getting around to fixing several of these slides from years gone by. It will be nice to have the road reopened, but while construction is ongoing, will be a bit of a mess.

Castro Ranch is almost done. I rode through yesterday and the pavement is all new and really nice. They just have to do the finishing touches like paint the lines, etc.

Signage like it might be closed during the week, but the half lane that was open today was a pleasure to ride. Nice turnouts and it's going to be a wide, two lane path. One side is closed to complete barrier to the off ramp.
