9 speed HG freewheel compatibility???
i'm curious about them. I see some are advertised for e-bikes, but some aren't. i don't know what makes a threaded e-bike hub different from any "normal" threaded freewheel hub (ie. older 27 inch or 700c), but on a brief read it appears there's no difference? is that correct? anyway, wondering of the compatibility. say if i were to use one on a normaly OLD 126mm spaced hub, i'm sure i'd have to respace ...or no? is this doable thing?

E-bike motor hubs usually have a very stout axle shaft slotted at the end to side into a typical vertical drop out and, I suppose because of this, they've more or less standardized on using freewheels vs. freehubs. The freewheel threads are standard British/ISO threads. Because of the ruggedness of these hubs, I don't think there's as much of a concern with bending or breaking axles (as there may be with a standard hub with a QR), making freewheels in the 8- and 9- and even 10-speed ranges more relevant for these motor hubs.

As a follow-up to that, this is a bit ironic because tight control over pedaling cadence is at least sometimes (often?) not as important with e-bikes as it is for regular pedal bikes. Many e-bikes work just fine with 1x7 drivetrains. The hubs themselves are generally the same or similar; there's not necessarily a drawback to running a 9-speed freewheel vs. a 7-speed freewheel (other than cost of the parts and chains, etc.), but there's often not a huge advantage either.

Clusters with more than seven sprockets generally require wider hub spacing, 130 or 135mm; otherwise re-spacing and re-dishing the wheel results in absurdly high drive side spoke tension and absurdly low non-drive side spoke tension. That's a recipe for early wheel failure.
