Campagnolo 9 Speed Ti Free Hub

@El Heron generously provided the subject free hub. It accepts a generously supplied 9 speed cassette. What is missing is the lock nut, Campagnolo 9v cassette lock nut - Bike Forums
This assembly fits perfectly on the 8v hub also acquired at a very price appealing level. What chance is there of that convergence to occur?
Branford shows variations of free hubs from 8 to 10 speed. Cassettes and Cogs — Branford Bike
So here is the question number 1..
Where does this fit?

P1050264 on Flickr

Question 2.
Does this fitting look right? Specifically the fittin of the last sprocket on the free hub, not the axle location.

Question 3.
Will a 10 speed cassette fit on this free hub if I spend the $50 for a lock nut?

So, Campy 9-speed lock nuts are a tricky problem. They aren't all the same size. I don't remember the numbers, but there was one size that is compatible with later 10/11 speed hubs and are commonly available. There was another one (26.0mm, I think) that only fits 9-speed hubs made in about a two year range. I'm not sure how to tell other than trying one to see if it fits. It looks like you have what Branford is calling the "original 9-speed" which I think makes it likely to require the rare locknut. I have one of the more common ones in a drawer in the garage that I could send you to try. If you need the rare size, you can try lucky dipping on eBay. My experience is that not all sellers are aware of the size issue. If they are, they'll be asking an outrageous amount of money for the rare size. If they're not, you might get one cheap. I got one that way. I had a theory as to how to visually identify them, but it turned out not to be reliable (which is why I have one of the more common size available).

Question 2: Yeah, that looks right. Once the lock nut is in place, it'll stay put.

Question 3: I believe so. The lock ring will definitely work with any cassette that fits the splines on the freehub, and I think a 10-speed cassette will fit that freehub.

@Andy_K Thanks for the reply. It has been sitting for awhile. Yes it does require the 26mm lock nut. The only one I have found is $44! Given that the hub was free and is 50g lighter than the 8 speed and the 9 speed cassette were both nealry free, the $44 might be palatable except it is robbery! The hub was purchased for less than $40 which was also a good deal.

1. I assumed it was between the ones pictured on the Branford site.
2. I also thought there would be enough engagement especially with the lock nut tightened down to compress the assembly
3. I think it is the spline issue that will determine if a 10 speed cassette will work. If it does, then I have a 10 speed Ergo I could use that would help justify the $44 lock nut! I may have to remove my 10v cassette and see if it will fit.

After much frustration tyring to understand why my cassette ring remover wouldn't work, I looked up the Park number to see iif I had the right one. Nope. Needed a FR 11 not FR1! I had it so removed the 10 v cassette and tried it on the 9V TI free hub. I pretty sure it will work if the lock ring has enough threads.
I also scoured the bay for a lock ring. Lots of them do not identify if they are 27 or 26. So I started asking the seller for those that were lower priced. Finally found one at a more reasonable price but still too much. It is on its way. Fitting will tell if it is truily a 26.

Knowing that a 10v cassette will fit and that I have a 10v Ergo that is where I am going. Really don't need 10 but it is a lower cost approach.

Now as long as the 9v Racing T works .....

Here is a shot of the 10V.

Took a risk with a purchase that was a bit high for a 26mm lock ring. It arrived today and it fit.

Next up is mounting the assembly on the wheel and the wheel on the bike.
