Strava shows me at 76mi so far this month...
Will def be well above 100mi as I have a 100km charity ride on the 24th. 16mi planned for tomorrow, same route again on Saturday.

Been running on my off cycling days, should be up at a 5k distance next week at a 10min/mi pace. C25K run planning coming through. Then on the Hal Higdon's Novice 1/2 marathon plan.
The 100mi of riding will earn me a fancy new Trek water bottle for competing the Strava challenge.

Hell im hoping to get at least 40 miles in after I make some repairs. But this summer heat and humidity just saps the energy right out of me.

Got a little extra mileage due to a street closure by the LAPD SWAT team. Shortly after I'd turned the corner the shooting started, but I think it was flash-bang grenades (I didn't stick around to verify that). I'll review my helmet-cam video once it's done copying off the camera and see what it saw. Never a dull moment commuting in L.A.

I don't think miles matter as much as how hard you are pushing while riding them. I have been riding over 100 miles per week for a long time, and I don't think that is a lot of miles at all, but if it has made me any stronger or faster it is because for half or more of them I am going as fast as I can, not touring, commuting or sight-seeing. Riding easy miles is good exercise, so is walking or mowing the lawn with a push-mower.

Riding as fast as you can has the benefit of getting you to the same or better fitness level in less miles and in less time. I have a lot of other things to work on and take care of so I don't have time to ride any more than 400 miles a week, and in the future I see I may not have time for even that much, so any time I spend riding I want to get as much out of as possible, and at only 60 years old I can still get quite a bit out of it.

Based on some of your posts in other areas I was pretty sure you were a troll. This post confirms it.

"Riding as fast as you can" is horrible training advise, even for elite athletes. If you ride over 400 miles per week, and more than half of those miles are "as fast as you can" you have gotten weaker and slower, not stronger and faster. The human body needs time to recover in order to get stronger. The time it takes to ride 200 miles a week "as fast as you can" simply doesn't give your body time to recover. Your numbers are off somewhere. Substantially off.

Did my 3-mile walk with Beau, then a bit shorter ride tonight. It was late (almost 9pm) but I forced myself to go. Once I get going I'm usually OK.

Don't know if he is a troll, but miles do matter. If you do a hundred miles at fifteen mph you will have done it in less time than if you had at twelve, but would have been burning calories at a higher rate for that shorter period. Calories burned per mile would be roughly equivalent.

Agreed. The amount of work done will be roughly the same.

And it depends on what you’re training for…if anything. If you’re training for riding 100 mile rides, going as hard as you can for 20 miles isn’t going to help…you’ll have 80 miles to go and you’re going to be tired. Lots of folks ride for the joy of seeing the world go by. The faster you go, the less time you get to enjoy the scenery.

I regularly ride a fixed gear on a flattish riverside trail. My speed varies quite a bit and there are a couple of segments where I sometimes do TT's all out. Both are about a mile long. Strava tells me my average most days is about 12 mph. At my age I can still to about twenty for a mile or so. If I don't stop so often to take pictures it goes up to fourteen or fifteen.
