I used Google Maps last night on my ride, and it wasn't as user friendly as anticipated. It would constantly orientate itself in the wrong direction, and it was confusing to say the least. Thank goodness I knew where I was going (for the most part), or I'd have made quite a few wrong turns. It still needs some work, but it's almost there.

I use google maps on the bike setting because I can get voice directions while I ride. But it's not perfect - I always check first with the terrific local app (511 Contra Costa Bike Mapper) that was made which covers all my local county areas. It's definitely more accurate but unfortunately
doesn't offer voice directions. I keep my phone hidden when I ride and just use my open-amibient sound earbuds for background music and directions and calls. I get texts and emails on my watch so I know if I need to stop and take out my phone for something urgent. I wish Google Maps was better at choosing routes - sometimes their idea of a bike path is a 4 lane street where I live with tons of traffic, lol.

Apple maps picks weird routes where I live, maybe it will get better. Google voice works fine for me because before I head out on my route I always look at "steps" so I know basically where it is going to take me and have a chance to adjust if something seems wrong. For unfamiliar routes I just always check 2 sources.
