I found my N+1 (Waterford content)

I don't need CL or Ebay anymore.

1997 Waterford 2200. 58x57. Just my size.

My plan is to to eventually swap at the 7700 DA for a Campy 10 speed group. Still need a couple of pieces for that. Not sure what I am going to do about the headset/stem/handlebars.

Beautiful bike in a beautiful color. Congratulations! I agree it needs Campy 10-s.

Beautiful!!!!! The whole color scheme really works for me. once you get the stem/bars sorted out, you'll have a real winner.

Beautiful bike! we had a nice waterford in a shop I worked in in about '96. I used it a few times to run to Dunkers until the mamager was agahst to discover I was "test riding" it. it rode very nice.

i hope you're going to get a proper 120mm quill type stem and rotate those bars down so the brake levers aren't pointing to the sky-- great find, too!

I am also curious why you say that. Is it a known problem with these bikes?

Well, 120mm would be too long for me. But 100mm sounds about right. And I certainly like the look of the quill stem better. And the brake levers are going campy eventually.

Nice bike. Personally I think you'll find the shifting of Campy 10spd a move down, but I love the crisp feel of 9spd DA stuff. Much of the internal parts were metal, as were the derailleurs. I think they're the finest finished, best shifting component group ever. PM me if you want to offload the whole thing, I'd be happy to have a 9spd DA in reserve for another bike.

Best of luck, that's a gorgeous frame. The seatlug bolt looks kinf of funny, like the head was stripped out? Maybe it's just the photo, but that bolt just doesn't look right.

Some (like myself) prefer the feel of Campy hoods for one. Some like the Campy name because it's not Shimano for another.

// Started with Tektro R200A levers that are patterned after Campy hoods, knew I like them, bought Campy from there on. Used Shimano a few times, nothing against it, but prefer Campy.

FWIW, the only problems I've heard about with the fastback seat stay to seat lug brazing on late nineties 2200s was caused by people using the wrong size seatpost, putting stress on the lug and stay brazing.

Up until around the 2000 model year, 1200s and 2200s required 27.4mm seatposts. However, a 27.2mm seatpost often fit and out of ignorance, some owners used 27.2mm seatposts which could lead to problems.

Read Waterford FAQ #20 FMI.

Well good news. I pulled the seat post and looked it over real carefully and could not find any cracks.

But bad news. The seat post in there was a 27.2. So there may be some lurking damage underneath. And Waterford did confirm that this was supposed to have a 27.4 seat post.

So anybody have a 27.4 seatpost for sale or trade?

I think I am going to prefer silver to black. I am not sure about the amount of setback. I really liked the way the bike felt, even though I did not ride it very far. But most of my other bikes have seatposts with more setback.

I am not really sure why the differences in setback anyway.

I have a nice a nice used, natural alloy American Classic with slight setback, maybe 1-1.5 cm. Get in touch if interested.

Best,

I don't have it anymore, but I used to have Thompson (Elite I think?) similar to what's in your pictures but silver with a 27.4 mast. It came to me in a Waterford built Paramount that I rebuilt with all Dura Ace, coincidentally, including a 27.4 DA seatpost.

My only point is that I know Thompson and Shimano made them, and I believe American Classic did as well.
