Thank you.
Too funny this old thread came to me in an email notification. I had this bike listed wrong as an 83 because I had bought it Xmas 83 brand new It is in fact a 1984 Grand Prix. I graduated HS in June 1984 and have had this bike my entire adult life...ironically I am currently doing another complete upgrade to it as we speak after 10 to 11 years of enjoying the last upgrade. This time I am changing quite a bit- Campy Carbon Fiber crankset (Compact 46/36 and SRAM 11-23t cassette). Sram Force deraileurs, Carbon Sram bar shifters on the Profile TT bars. Lots of carbon fiber (post, forks, stem, bull horn bars). I love this bike. Owned it going on 37 years now and am one of the rare to say "original owner" AND it still has ORIGINAL paint and decals (just a bit of touch up paint here and there covering nicks and scratches).
Those are Mavic wheels I put on it 9 years ago and ride great. The fork steering tube unfortunately is stripping threads and has seen better days so I am putting on a set of Carbon fiber forks with a Campy Record headset. Waiting on parts.
Dec 2020 just prior to the rebuild. I have at least 15k on this bike in 37 years. It's been an off and on relationship but I keep her stored well.
Feb 2021
Today March 2021
Carbon bullhorn bars with padding on the flats under the tape for forearm rests.
I know what I like, that is why I am rebuilding it to take away what dislikes Ive had.

Hey Drummerboy 197,
It's been a while and I haven't posted......just reading everyone's post, but today I'll show you my dad's old 1959-60 Raleigh "Grand Prix Lenton". He purchased it new and I was able to have it restored in 2018. Give me your thoughts.....

Here was my cheapo 1973 Raleigh 5d, that I bought new. This pic was just before I scrapped most of it for parts. No, that is not the seat I used. I am posting this just because I am desperately seeking a couple sets of these GRIPS, blue / green/ purple or gold. They are awesomely smooth soft and durable plastic. I know none of you use these and am hoping you didn't all throw them out. These sparkle ones are made of a different vinyl than the solid black ones with a harder plastic. PM me please.
I am getting ready to put the back fender on my new Simcoe IGH. These grips have been on my custom tour bike for 25,000 miles.

Those look like standard Hunt Wilde grips as found on lots of 60s and 70s upright bar bikes. Still made and sold: https://www.amazon.com/s?srs=9124478011

An unusual Raleigh I got out of the garbage. It's not a high end bike but it rides very nicely. T-Mar said it's a 1984 or 1985 model. Raleigh Vector made for the Canadian market.

1976 Raleigh Gran Prix
We cleaned out our garage a short while ago and was about to toss this tall Grand Prix frame. Then I had second thoughts and turned it into a piece of bicycle art.

Raleigh is my "jam", as the hipsters might say... This is my '86 (?) Nottingham built prototype 531C Raleigh USA labeled frame Serial number "SAM 2" (presumed as marketing "sample"). As I have a number of Raleigh bikes of this vintage built with only parts available of the production year, I opted to do a 11-Speed Neo-Retro build with this one.

Well, I foolishly got rid of two of these years ago. I am now constantly on the hunt for one in the same condition in my size of 54-5cm. Love the patriotic paint scheme!
