All Silver Chain Rings on Black Crank Arms
Do all silver chain rings (e.g., compact double 50/34) on black crank arms (including the mounting star) look odd? If someone has this setup, please post photos.

I admit, it does look odd. That's why I removed them hit them with black spray paint.

They look fine imho. These are Record rings, so they are on the dull side.

I like the combo. Awhile back there was a DA series (7900?) that featured silver and black components. Looked good, IMO.

I am not meaning this in an offensive way - "who cares?" - meaning I hope you're not worried about how it looks because it's all you have or can get. I say run what you have and enjoy the ride. Life's too short not to ride.

I have a pretty much all black bike save for the spoke nipples and brake rotors. I’m wanting to explore getting bigger chainrings. And I’ve also seriously considered doing it in silver for a bit more pop. My tan-wall GP5Ks helped and I think the silver chainrings would look good. And I’m the only one with an opinion on what my bike looks like that I care about.

I did it the other way around on my fixed gear, and I think it looks fine:

Is odd a good thing or a bad thing?
(I think that's why the spiders went from 5 arms to 4 because 5 looked odd)

Also, that is the best chain line I have seen on a single-speed / fixie; no slack at the bottom at all!

The slack you usually see is there for a reason; I've never seen a SS drivetrain that's perfect enough to run with no slack. Set it up like the BMX kids do, and it causes carnage.

Installed my matte silver chain rings today. Far less odd than I had imagined; almost as good as big john's setup! But chain drop prevention peg on big ring only half as long as its counterpart on the stock FSA Pro ring.

Also, I reckon that crank would look better with a less old-school design of ring, although the matt silver does look good on it, works with the etched logos.

You are probably right, but the 10 speed 105 rings are the only Shimano rings that would fit on this crank, and so many people say that the 105 rings shift better than the stock FSA rings, the big one of which is visible at the bottom edge of the photo and has the same design.

The Shimano dealer manual for the rings calls it a chain drop prevention pin, but I thought "peg" provided a better description of its diameter.

And yeah, it's a pretty safe bet that the guys who invented good shifting do it best.
