By any measure, a 42t rear cog is HUGE. Yes, you do.

Dunno if the OP has looked at them or not.
I suspect the OP may need a derailleur hanger extender ("goatlink" or equivalent) to use the GS with an 11-42. But it's at least theoretically possible he might get lucky without one.

I had my local trek store do it as I would have to had to do the work in the rain as my garage has no light and not a l t of room. plus they are less then a mile away. its great we can climb 16+ hills with a lot less assist and less work on our part. now we can spin up hills and our battery should go longer.
