3 time periods were left blank, 2 World Wars and the Lance Armstrong Doping years..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...cation_winners

So 1947 was the 1st post WW2 war year , (none for 40~46)

He was indeed. Nice that you mention that fact. Something of a 'quiet hero' to many Jews -- he certainly is such in my eyes. There is an excellent book about his resistance activities (Road to Valor[2013]) and his story features in a recent documentary, My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes[2014, I think].

That, with his cycling talent, makes a nice association for a birth-year in the context of this thread.

Now, I'm not saying anyone here is ancient or anything, but ... shouldn't the question be in Latin to be accurate?

I have his book. For someone like me that likes cycling and history it is a great read. It was funny how on "training rides" he was smuggling resistance information right by the enemy, and they were yelling go go!!!!

Same as in post #17 - Charly Gaul (Luxembourg). He won in 1958 by winning four of the mountain climbing stages in that race. He also won the Giro twice (1956 & 1959), and won a whole bunch of climbing stages in the TdF and Giro. He was the dominant climber of this time, and he didn't mind riding in inclement weather conditions. Also won a lot of one-day and cyclocross races (but never the Paris-Roubaix classic).

I am sidelined recovering from a surgery and thought I would look it up. It is interesting. Louison is a Frenchman who served in WW II. He became a professional cyclist in 1947. He had to withdraw from a race with an injury an cried because the team sent him home. The press nicknamed him La Bobetette, and the cry baby. That fired him up.

He became the first person to win the Tour 3 consecutive years.

I am going to try and find a bike like he rode and rebuild it, just because, its a bike!

Who won your birth year?

For me it was 1953, and that was the year of Louison Bobet's first win!

That was my dad's generation-stoic and low drama. They were tough guys (and gals.) Sure seem different than folks today. Those images of Mussolini and the twisted world order they represent are a cautionary tale.
