Westward from home.

Gravelpaths on the Strabrechter Heide.

A shepherd and his herd of sheep

More sheep.

The Carbonio told me she loves these roads.

Providencia, formerly a monastry. Still a place where mentally ******** people live and are beeing nursed.

An old huge tank. Probably used by farmers years ago.

And a fen in the forest.
Nice ride, perfect weather for men and bicycle.

I took yet another Friday off from work and took a bike ride. (What a great idea! A bike ride instead of work! Well, the company still owes me a few days from last year.) 28.55 miles on the Masi. Had a bit of tire trouble, the rear went soft after maybe 5 miles. They are sewups so it meant swapping it out for the spare and hope I didn't have another flat before I got back close enough to the car to walk if necessary. Normally I would carry two spares but it's been so long since I rode this bike more than a few miles that I didn't think about it. Duh... That was early in the ride so I soldiered on and hoped for the best. I made it back to the car with no trouble, drove home. When I took the bike out of the car at home I noticed that the spare I'd put on the rear was soft too now. Okay, so now I think I remember, I had this trouble before and had told myself I needed to address it before riding the Masi again. How quickly we forget! Or just don't remember. Anyway, it was a great ride. I love the bike.

A stop at an ice cream stand. What is a Fordson tractor? Who made it, Ford? Henry Ford II? Maybe.

Frank Scimone Farm, Concord, a fixture on Rt 62 for decades. Frank passed away in the 90's this past year, but the farm continues!

I had a morning appointment across the River and then a couple of hours break, so I took the John Clay out for a cruise. This was the first ride both for the Acorn front bag and the OneUp platform pedals. Liked both a lot!

Those are some serious pins on those pedals. What shoes did you wear for 'em?

Just my standard Merrell Chameleon light hikers. I worried that I’d feel the pins on the relatively thin soles of those shoes, but not a problem at all. I also have somewhat wide feet, and these are wide pedals.

Good to know; I am also a member of the wide-foot club.

Sweet EM there Doc. Is that a Pro? I have one waiting to be built that is same color but less chrome, an ‘81 I believe.

Work has been interfering with my riding big time, but I got out for another short ride around town today. Gorgeous weather here. The UVA rugby field has come down with a case of the pox. Zoom in to see. I think they are place markers for graduation.

I got out for a few hours late in the morning; absolutely gorgeous out! There was a very important mid-ride stop to deliver some tasty treats to the fiancé and her coworker. Hazelnut financier, blueberry cheesecake, plus a ginger chocolate chip cookie and iced coffee to help fuel the rest of my ride. A couple of hours gardening once home, then some delicious pizza and a second cookie to round out the day...

Precious cargo:

I took a new-to-me road along the way and found a bit of New England history:

We've been stretching our tandem mileage. Today we did 38.75. We could have hit 40 but I skipped on little loop because traffic was getting heavy. A nice day to ride.

Pro SLX, 1984. Before the Corsa Extra was introduced.
Just trying to get in some miles before Thunder Ridge next weekend.
Rumor has it that RobbieTunes and Gail, his Paramour, will be there, followed by a ride with them out of Purcellville on Monday.

Great ride with northbend and pals today at Chinook Pass. Climbed up from the Sno-Park at Silver Springs, along 410 (closed to vehicular traffic) to the PCT overhead crossing at Natches Peak Loop trailhead. 5 - 6% grades and 2700 feet of climbing over the 13 miles. The descent was a blast! The whole day was awesome - thanks for the invite, Matt! I needed this day.

Lots o' pics:

The snow near the summit covers the road. This splits up our group some staying behind at this point..
Just before the summit of Cayuse we ran into snow by Matthew Pendergast, on Flickr

While others walk the final patch of snow to the summit.

The pavement is dry and clear just past the East side of the summit. I break out the full on Cino lunch spread I had brought. Wine, Baguette, Sausage, Olive Tapenade, Emmentaler and Brie Cheeses, sliced Apples.

Time for the descent! The Snow is too deep to appreciate the view of Tipsoo Lake but seeing Rainier more than makes up for the loss.

We leave the park and regroup at our cars parked at the bottom of Crystal Mountain Blvd. Some pack up to go home while some others decide get some extra climbing in by riding up to the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort.

The last miles are spent on a screaming 6 mile downhill back to the cars.

^^^ amazing photos - we're gonna be in WA over the 4th, just the Seattle area & close-by elevations but I'm really looking forward to it.

A multi-club memorial ride for a much respected cyclist yesterday and of 24 bikes, I'm the lone steel rider. There is a 2000 Ti Litespeed on the right at the 00.32 sec mark. I'm on an Ironman at 00:14.

Had a wonderful, 25-mile mixed-terrain ride in the Shutesbury/Pelham area (just west of the Quabbin Reservoir, which supplies Boston's drinking water). The farther west you go in Massachusetts, the more gravel opportunities you get, as long as you don't mind hills.

Loving this bike more with every ride. It's a 1982 (I think) Gran Turismo that just got left under a table last summer at one of our co-op's pop-up clinics. Nobody knew who dropped it off; it had just one rear 27-inch wheel. Using a mix of bin parts, new parts, and co-op stuff, I got this together over the winter and it is a fantastic-riding bike. Those are 32mm Ritchey Speedmax tires from another build that got a different set. I had been going through tire anxiety as I searched for a new set, but these seem just fine, and they fill out to about 34mm on these rims. That's a Brooks B-15 narrow on there, brought back to life with an application of Proofide.

Matt, you ended up getting some fantastic photos and really captured the mood of the day; thanks for posting!

And this is just my personal opinion, but the second pic in your first post is probably the best photo anyone's ever gotten of me on a bike. Matching kit, Mt. Rainier in the background, big smile = awesome. Thanks for posting yourself there to get pics of everyone as they rode past - the perfect frame!
