I had my wheels built quite a while back but everything I have seen and heard leads me to believe he is still at it.

I would give him a buzz and confirm but I have high doubts he would have stopped and not told us all.

Hope Pro4 Hubs are really easy to rebuild. No fancy tooling, even though you can get a tooling setup for $50 last time I checked, its not absolutely necessary, as you can find most of the similar sized tools in any reasonably stocked shop.

Most hubs made these days are more than adequate for your plan. Unless they are junk, almost every middle tier hub or better will handle that trip.

If it were me planning a trip like that, I’d look into getting a wheelset where all spokes are the same length. A lot of my bikes have 4 different lengths (front even has 2 lengths with disc sometimes).

Offset hubs, offset rims, and some time with a spike calculator should get you there. Or ask the touring types here, they might know of a setup for you.
