Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apart from the penalties, UT proper didn't really stink it up. It lacks an SEC quarterback and has a lot of inexperienced players. Makes it hard to win.

I spent some time today washing a couple of my bikes, including the Ritchey, so of course I also re-lubed them. I spun the back wheel up while checking the shifting, and when I stopped pedaling it and let it freewheel, I discovered the freehub now sounds like it was filled with gravel.

Great.

So, I figure I need to service, or replace the freehub body. Small problem - it's a 25 year old Shimano 7403 hub, meaning there's a special tool to remove the freehub, and then, with luck, I can clean up and re-grease it, because I almost certainly won't be able to find a replacement freehub body. I found the tool. In Belgium. I ordered it, so it will be here sometime in the next...month. So, now the Ritchey is out of commission and the Bianchi is still in the shop, like an Italian exotic car, waiting for a part.

Good thing I have 6 alternatives.

Had good luck with the Seven, the new used crankset and the new chain worked smoothly today. I did have to buy a freehub body for it last year, genuine Campagnolo Record made in Taiwan.
Speaking of gravel in the hub, I was mountain biking in Tahoe in 2010 and whenever I stopped pedaling it sounded horrible. I took the wheel to REI up there and they dropped everything and replaced the freehub for me so my vacation could continue. That was awesome service.

Time to ride. Might get to podium this week, but no way I can top WhyFi after yesterday’s epic he did.

I can catch him if he's too tired to ride today or he takes a family day.

I can't say. I know my Honda was built here. It is said that Mexico saved the Nissan Motor Company. So it's likely there is one or more.

An interesting tale. Seedsbelize2 came into being when Seedsbelize got locked out completely back in 2016, while trying to do a password change. Over the years I would take up the challenge, and fail. A week or so ago, I took up the challenge again, because I could log in on my chromebook, which has the password stashed somewhere, but not on the phone. As of yesterday I cannot log into seedsbelize2 on the phone, even with a known password, but it works just fine on the chromebook.

I think I'll have the opportunity for a little recovery spin later, but nothing significant. Legs are feeling surprisingly good, though a little tight; I was kind of expecting knotted strands of hurt. I guess my fitness is coming around just in time for the trail end of my riding season.

The internet says there are 2 Nissan plants in Mexico with 14.5K employees.

Oh no @Velo Vol, the mighty Owls have another juggernaut on their schedule.

Jacksonville State shocked the world last night.

Oh, no! In the sense that it's meaningless to me.

I'm sure you've jumped on the Owls bandwagon and they're your #1 FCS school. I can score an extra ticket if you want to swing by and watch the J-State game.

Here are some pics from the epic match up at Sun Trust park, home of MLB's Atlanta Braves. J-State has an impressive band.
Note: KSU won in 5 overtimes.

I'm not sure if this list is current, but no they are not. Why would I cheer for KSU over the Mercer Bears?

Had a short but sweet ride. I am prepared to get kicked off the podium but might still stay on, barely.

Strava tells me I hit 5k miles for the year.

Are you under the impression that Humbug is going to go out for a 70 miler? I think you're safely on the podium.

Aware. I hope you are right. But as Han Solo told young Skywalker, “don’t get cocky!”

I have no idea what a list of all FCS programs has to do with this. Certainly all the game day reports over the years has swayed your opinion. My reporting has been stellar.

Fun fact: I once rode through Western Carolina campus on a century ride. It's much more scenic than KSU, probably.
