Gravel tires

Where can I get decent tires for 27 inch wheels to ride on a gravel trail in New Jersey.

If they'll fit your frame, lots of folks seem to like the SwiftTire made by Panaracer: https://www.swifttire.com/product/sa...8-folding-tan/

Not the best tires, but seem popular enough on the forum....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36326384446...cAAOSwM8pg9rEi

They don't measure out quite to the stated width, though. A little narrower.

I have these and I like them a lot. Sturdy, smooth riding.

On the front wheel they will ruin the steering feel. The tread pattern does not handle the loads correctly, so the transition between straight-line riding and cornering is abrupt.

Hard to believe that they went into production without road-testing, though there have been other tires with similar sorts of issues such as Panaracer's "TT Radial" tires.

There is a Panaracer Pasela in 630-32 (27 x 1 1/4). That would be my choice. Maybe hard to find, though. My usual suppliers all seem to be out of stock.

There are Kenda 184 (27x 1 3/8") and K1153 (27 x 1.95) on that auction site, they might do.

I just bought a pair from Bell’s Bike Shop on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Panaracer-P...-127632-2357-0

Not sure that’s helpful to BFers outside of the US, however.

Found an EU supplier that looks to have them available:

Oh, that's too bad. I would have thought they at least had to be as good as the Kross tire. I had some WTB 40c's with that chevron pattern. Those were good tires. Bad Kenda

It's not just the chevron pattern, but the height of the thin chevron ribs that cannot handle side loads on this tire.

Any tire with similar height-to-thickness tread elements would also suffer the same inability to support responsive steering.

I'm also a fan of the Paselas. The larger ones fit my Raleigh International if I install the rear tire deflated.

The tread is good for most uses except mud, which this bike wouldn't be optimal for anyway
