20" Wheel Front Hub width 74mm vs 100mm?
So I know all the Dahon and Tern 20" wheeled bikes have 74mm front axle widths.
I know the Xootr Swift front wheel is 100mm like most BMX bicycles and 20" kids bikes.
What width is the Bike Friday, Birdy 18", Brompton 16", old Raleigh, or any folding bike front hub width?

narrow fork contributes to smaller folded package.
Brompton is a 74*, Bike Friday [NWT] Pocket Llama 20" is 100.. (Mine has Disc Brakes)
* to put in electric motor hubs the fork must be spread to 10cm
I think the 349-16" TikIt and new PackIt are 74 .. 24 spoke 9mm axle. Brompton is 28 spoke , 8mm axle.

Origami Crane 8 is 74mm, the Gazelle, Cricket, Mantis, and Hawk are all 100mm.

My Pocket Llama has a seat post sizing shim with an inside diameter of 27.2mm.
But the actual ID of the Seat Mast Tube, the OD of the shim, is larger..
But ... Bike Friday does not use a Telescoping seat tube as a part of its fold procedure.

I am not sure how many companies produce the 74mm front hub..My guess is only one..It may be Formula ..not sure..I may be wrong but the Brompton hub of 74mm is perhaps made by the same manufacturer that makes them for Dahon and Tern and all the other Dahon Licensed companies..
Much better choices of hub in the 100mm width..Very hard to get a quick release sized 74mm..

74mm-hubs may not be as common as 100mm hubs but are by far not only produced by only one single company.
Not really. In fact most of them have. You just have to do your homework in form of minimal research to find out.

You may be able to find many 74mm hubs in the USA but in the UK they are very rare..CH White stocks them but on his website they only have 74mm hubs with 20 holes..Most Dahon or Dahon licenced bikes use 28 spokes..He does sell 74mm quick releases..So if you want a 74mm 28 spoke hub it would have to be a Brompton hub I would think..I can think of no other place to source them in the UK apart from Brompton dealers..However it is easy enough to source... 74mm hub complete wheels..
And all you guys will tell me they are available but they are very difficult to source in the UK..Sent from the USA or Korea.. will incur expensive postal charges

Although a clever mechanical person can put a shim sleeve around the axle [ 1/2 a mm r = 1mm D.]

As a Tern owner, I'm trying to solve this as well. I'd like to be able to build myself a quality front wheel that'll last a while.
Bike Friday still sells their Tikit hub (come on BF - let me post links) but it's a 24-hole hub, and there aren't any 24-hole rims out there that I'm aware of, so I'd have to do some creative lacing. I'm drawing a blank on where to find the American Classic hub. There seems to be an active link for the Dahon Neutron hub, however, which is made by American Classic. It looks like bricklanebikes has some Phil Wood hubs, but they're not part of the regular Phil Wood catalog, so guessing they're NOS. Axle diameter there is 8 mm. From Jtek's site, their axle diameter is also 8 mm, which means you'd either have to replace the axle or do some questionable shimming to work with a Tern/Dahon.
Am I missing any other non-dynamo options? Any 24-hole rims out there?
John

Found this one TERN Front Hub black 411929 | eBay
while searching for other items. Can not find anything about spoke count so ask. Same seller has several Tern hubs, also dynamos but all low spoke count hubs.
Edit: Same seller, narrow front hub 28 holes.

...and I almost missed the 24-hole Aeroheat, which is black-only with machined sidewalls. Totally getting one of them ASAP - will see if the LBS can order one for me. Gotta do one for the rear now, too ;-)
Hub-wise, I ended up buying the Tikit hub plus a 28-hole Novatec hub from SJS Cycles in the UK. Will probably end up keeping both - PITA to return the Novatec overseas.
Thanks to everyone for their responses!
