Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Made for one of my favorite episodes of The Sopranos, but I think I'm ok never going there.

The part where I’ll be is relatively developed. In fact, a few miles away from the campground is the town of Woodbine. There’s a pizza place there called Soprano’s. No lie.

Edit: Holy crap! They changed the name:

Crappy weekend in our household, wife and I have been trying to buy a house for 9 months. Lost out on three of them last year, one which we were under contract on. Went and saw one Friday AM, immediately put in an over asking price offer but are now are in a multiple offer situation. People are trying to relocate here from downstate and driving prices up to silly levels so looks like we will miss out on another.

sorry to hear that amigo. We think we’re gunna start trying to buy one in the spring. Currently the houses are only lasting about 10 days on the market, and we need a little more funds to be competitive. Also, losing a house that we really want would destroy the wife.

Initial impressions from today:

1. 40 miles of MUP is definitely too much
2. This saddle is probably best for 60-75 mile rides, maybe not 125
3. 10 hours is a long time to spend with myself

Kudos. They look great!

I should have gotten a tiny bit more lost today, datlas is ahead of me by 1/2 mile.

I know I'm going to need to spin some of this out tomorrow, but it's hard to imagine getting on a bike right now.

I felt great all day, but hit a freaking wall at 110 miles.

Went sailing today. Great conditions, but it didn’t look like a pleasant night to anchor out, so we will sleep at home and I will get some distance tomorrow...

IMO ideal bike ride is about 4-5 hours. More than 5ish and something starts to feel no bueno.

Depends how I’m feeling. I certainly don’t need that much, but there’s this road I was planning to check out... Distance is a silly parameter, anyway.

I hit my ride too hard. Well, I hit it hard enough that I didn't have much left in the tank at the end, so I'm going to need to seriously rein it in for a metric double of my own. I should really work on that...

Anybody know where I could pick up some tips on pacing for longer rides?

1) That's called "Tuesday morning".
2) Find the right saddle.
3) Yes.

BTDT. Only once though. I managed 118 that day. I decided a double metric wasn't a necessary milestone.

I lost a water bottle towards the end of today’s ride and was too cranky to go on a treasure hunt to find it.

I do need a couple new water bottles anyway as my usual ones are getting worn.

I have usually been buying Camelbak Podium bottles, any reason to look elsewhere?
