60 K starting out at 06:30.
One of my usual "Gravel & Tar" loops — yeah I stole that moniker from the Kiwis.
The weather is finally back to more moderate e.g. around or slightly below 20°C at 06:00.
It had been brutal for the past week and I was happier in the cooled house.

I have been feeling bad since Wednesday but was planning on about 40 miles this morning but figured I would be lucky to get 30. I woke up and thought the best I could do is hit a rails to trails path and use the flat shady trail to get at least 20. Wound up with 50.

Yesterday: HR jumped from 115 to 180 in a flash at 4.5 miles. Rode 2/10 mile to a park and got off bike. HR stayed between 165 and 180 for a couple of more minutes and then dropped precipitously to about 100. I felt lousy, didn't know whether to keep riding, but slower, go directly home, call my W for a ride home, call 911 ... I ended up resting for 20 minutes and doing another 15 miles. I felt better as I pedaled, and the last half of my ride was almost at my normal speed. HR never went above 110.

I know I have A-fib and hypertension. I need to talk with my doc....

Yeah. I was scared while it was happening. I'm pretty sure it was a med. Saturday was the last time I took it. I can't describe the symptoms. I felt as if my head would explode, and I was some how detached from the world. Very strange. I don't know my maximum HR, but the rule of thumb says 143 (I'll be 77 in a couple of weeks).

Today: 24 miles in sunny, low 90s, WSW wind at 15+ mph. Kept HR below 120 for the most part. The HR graph (from Lezyne) shows a couple of rapid rises to 145, but I think they coincided with rises in the road. I haven't enjoyed the last few rides much, but today was a fun ride.

The three day holiday weekend helped to get some nice riding in. I rode the same 55 mile loop three times.

Yesterday: 22 + miles, 80s, light winds, sunny, rested once on general principles and once just to enjoy the sunshine. Felt strong throughout. Would have gone farther, but my time was limited. What a great pleasure to be off hydrochlorthiazide!

Today: 25 miles, low 70s, light wind, sunny - beautiful day to be riding. Once again, good rife start to finish, no a-fib.

I usually ride one of my Single Speeds thru this location but because it was extra hot & humid out I figured a geared bike would be easier on this old phart....

50 miles on our Tuesday night group ride. I had a 50+ moment……pulling a group and down in the drops. Missed a turn thinking the route we were doing was the one used on weekends….good supper on the ride home

13 miles on Jupiter Island, just enough to get good workout before the sunset, at this time very few cars, bikes or people.

Went on a slow 32 mile group ride with my local bike club on a cloudy, cloudy day. Small group, leader and group decided to ride a little faster than planned, on the low end of the moderate speed group. I've been doing that speed solo, but it was too fast for me in a group, so I dropped out at 10 miles.. I rode home ... 2 mph faster than the group's speed going North, but it's downhill going home. And 'downhill' is an exaggeration - home is 100-200' lower than where I turned around (10-20 ft/mile). I got 14 or 15 PRs on the ride.

I have no beef with the leader or the group. I said the higher speed would be OK, and when it became clear it wasn't, they all expressed a willingness to slow down. Good leader, nice group.

All that smoke finally cleared, it's been dreadful this week. Time for my Rail Trail tour. Whatever headwind I had to fight going South helped on the way home. Pretty speedy on the pavement going North along Woodlake, top speed 35.5 km/h on flat terrain.Total distance 53.5 K.
Next step: review the Action Cam video of the Woodlake portion.

PS that's on my DeVinci MTB.

4th day in a row off the bike with hopefully only a few more to go. Have a self inflicted neuroma on my left foot (too long of a screw on a cleat poking my foot - which I coudn’t feel) which placing any pressure on my fore-foot seems to exacerbate. And this was going to be my come-back year for strength, distance and speed after a multi-year hiatus. Oh well, could be much worse.

A little over 37 miles today. It got hot quickly! Temp on the Garmin 1030+ started out at 83 deg, and within 20 minutes was up to 94.

Been riding the vintage bikes a lot lately. Over to issaquah is about 25, a run to Redmond (Marymoor Park) bumps the length to 45mi.

Ride on.

San (Jose) to San (Francisco) to San (Jose)

Our club did our annual ride from the Almaden Valley in San Jose up to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco (~68 miles, 1700') on a gorgeous Saturday. Really couldn't have asked for better weather. Started a bit after 6am, stopped a few times for coffee, and pulled into Fisherman's Wharf about 1pm. San Francisco seems to have recovered somewhat, tourist-wise, (last year was a ghost town) but still relatively quiet. Valencia and Market streets were an absolute joy to ride down - empty pretty much the whole way.

I ate my PB&J with the group at Aquatic Park, then turned around and rode back home. Total for the day - 131 miles, 3200' though I could have cut a few miles off as I ended up doing street bagging for my Wandrer log

Mary Ave pedestrian bridge, Cupertino

Peets Coffee, San Mateo

An empty Valencia Street

Waiting for the light on Market St.

An empty Market St.

The Ferry Building, Market and Embarcadero

Lunch at Aquatic Park

10 hours and 130 miles leaves a mark! Ewww.

52+ km today most of it on the gravely Rail Trail, the 8 klicks on pavement were good to get a comparison on how my action cam set-up behaves.
Welllll more changes/improvements needed to be made. Choosing the frugal Chinese path has a few drawbacks but I'm getting there.
The small clip https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/577332951 shows the difference of "behaviour" on pavement and gravel. The cam had just enough play in the mounting cage to vibrate nicely on gravel. Got it fixed but it will be retested tomorrow.
Other than that and the strong headwind going South it was a very nice ride.

50 miles through the city. Very hazy, smoky skies. The smoke from the wildfires in Canada has really affected the sky over the past few days.

Planned to.go on a 30 mile ride but the back of my head hurt. I went to the hospital and they determined l had bleeding on my brain - so now I am in a much larger hospital with lots of tests going on. It does not appear to be a aneurism so far. Ride 1 extra mile for me.

25 mile ride today on the local trails. There were 4 decent climbs on the ride and one spot on a longish road where I can pick up the pace. Plus the ride has a gravel detour because of construction. I took the 1979 Trek 510 which I've been riding a lot lately. It was a good workout.
