I picked this up cheaply at the local recycling centre. A Southern Star. A very cheaply made bike but came with a flip/flop hub. The freewheel is rubbish but it rides ok fixed.

My singlespeed ride is a Ciocc Mockba 80 with mostly Campagnolo trim. It rolls on Mavic G40s and 23mm Challenge Criterium tires. 65 gear inches with a 42t chainring and 17t rear sprocket. Paint is very rough with a lot of brush applied touch-up work. I acquired the frame after a front-ender produced small bulges behind the head tube lugs. A local-to-me framebuilder straightened this to the spec head tube angle in about 5 minutes. Fork is non-original .... scored it at the 2023 Seattle Swap for $10. The freewheel is an older Sun Tour 5-speed with one threaded cog and a polished aluminum cover that I machined from some scrap aluminum. It's a fun ride.

Old man birthday half century
Originally planned for a metric, but it was hot, I'm fat, and ran out of gas. Still made it 50 miles though! That's good for me at this point in the season. Couple of shots from the ride today. Mishmash build centered around a Spicer cycles triple triangle. Solid as ever. Going on 8 years old I think 🤔

Went for a ride with a good buddy this weekend and he brought out one of my favorite builds. I had my camera with me so I snapped a few photos to share here.

Re CB, I went to a local cycle jumble (first ever time) looking for a pair of high flange hubs and the nicest pair (Harden) was attached to CB above

Not the best pic but wanted to share my 55cm Big Block w/ Mad Fiber clinchers converted to fixed by c4cycleworks out of Brooklyn. Currently running a 16t freewheel.

Always wanted a bike like this. Wouldn't have been very effective on the North Shore but now that I live in Ontario it's pretty perfect. Had to give the girlfriend the One Ups, new pedals in the mail but you get the idea for now.

surly steamroller part deux
Paid too much for a project frameset and paid too little for a set of Paul hubbed wheels with A23 rims.
got it rolling with some old Mafac Racers a friend wanted disappeared.
Only short freewheeling test ride so far.
Maybe some fixed dirt today or tomorrow.
plan is to repaint. I’m thinking of asking this forum if adding braze on bits add to the value or take away.
I’d like to add: brake cable stops; DT shifter Boss for an IGH; rack bosses front and rear; possibly a tab for a coaster brake to facilitate a quick way to release (maybe no shifter Boss if I do that…)
Had considered adding canti posts for 650b wheels, but I’ve talked my self out of that. Maybe.
right now- just ready to ride.

As per how do they ride - Davey of course faster, more agile and comfortable due to being 20y younger. Russ is surprisingly nimble too, perhaps let down by it's 26" wheels and heavy tyres, so plan is to swap with 700c and better rubber, although will keep originals at hand. If anything is a 'let down' is the usual braking effort, as with all the old bikes....a reason you must be tad bit more alert when riding these, especially if wet
