Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In the past, Indiana didn't observe it. I don't know about now. Mexico recently passed that law. The next time we fall back will be the last, except possibly for Quintana Roo, home of Cancun. They have been following the eastern USA for some time now, so as not to confuse the tourists but instead confusing the rest of the country. It's possible that this time next year they will be two hours ahead of us.

No, they don’t comply, such a renegade state.

I wonder if that is veneer on there. Can you check that for me datlas ?
Edit: the chipped corner looks like it is. And the disguised nail holes on the section below the chip. I never heard of veneer being nailed on, but if it's thick enough, maybe.

Nope, none of that nonsense in AZ, except up on the Navajo Reservation.

I am a furniture moran. I know what a veneer is but don’t know how to tell. The thing is indeed quite heavy. My sister gave it to us, and my impression is that she has expensive taste in furniture. I am happy with IKEA which I once heard someone tell me means shyte in Swedish.

I looked carefully and I do think the table (at least the top) is made with veneer. The bottom part looks like not veneer.

We had a fantastic ride today. It was sunny and dry, with a cool breeze. We had 10 riders and everyone mostly behaved.

One easy way to tell if there is a veneer is to look at the edges and the grain. If you look at a corner of that table, the grain flow conflicts and that tells you the surface is a veneer.

You don't get edge grain on perpendicular adjacent surfaces....

Last night, while grinding up a local climb on my MTB, I passed a guy wearing a kilt. To complete the package of resplendent manliness, his machine was a fully-rigid singlespeed.

At the top of the climb, I spent a bit of time chatting with the kilted gentleman and his riding partner (wife, I assume). Very nice folks who - it turns out - who know a bunch of people I know.

"Is anything worn under the kilt?"
"Nae, lass! It's all good as new!!!"

So, you didn't make any jokes about, "Shouldn't you be riding a step-through frame?" or such like?

The Older Boy's then-girlfriend either convinced him to buy a kilt, or bought him one. He liked it, and for a while he wore it a lot. Then she broke up with him, and it's languished in his closet since. To be fair, though, he wasn't heartbroken by the breakup, because the relationship itself was more traumatic.

I am careful not to ask too many questions about a man and his kilt. I do not want to be surprised by a swinging shillelagh. This particular kilt-clad gentleman seemed to be quite fit and strong, and type that a soft-edged sort of fellow like myself probably should not poke fun at until a solid friendship is established.

A kilt does seem like an awfully comfortable and practical bit of attire for longing around the house. Since I'm on the verge of having a kid-free residence, maybe it's time to explore my Scottish roots.

Hey, when it's kid free, clothing optional is definitely worth considering.

Gets a bit ugly as you get older though.
