Well now, I didn't guess Riverside because the air is entirely too clean. When I was there back in the eighties, Riverside was a catch basin for all the smog out of LA. You could literally see the toxic, brown cloud settling in there shortly after rush hour. Spend a day there, and I would go home with a sore throat from breathing that all that crap. Sort of like what China is seeing in its cities today. What I remember about Barstow was how abruptly the town ended at the edge of the desert - just BAM! Sand... but the sky there was always bright sunshine and blue skies. And gas stations called "Terrible Herbst"... too funny.

Mississippi River, South of Saint Paul, MN

Had a nice ride tonight, down along the river. This is the MRT south of Saint Paul. Winds were gusting to 30 mph out of the North, so my ride back home was challenging.

F16 - gotta be the sexiest jet on Earth. Out of all the American fighter jets, this one came closest to John Boyd's ideal of the perfect aerial dogfighter. Until they started hanging bombs on it, anyway...

Beautiful shot.

I know that feel, 'bout the wind. All weekend was cool and very windy.

Nope. We plan on getting rid of it in a few days. It's been a warm winter this spring.

I made these images last year, just before our first snow, and I was thinking about how cool it would be to see the view from behind other cyclist's handlebars. This is very easy to do: You simply straddle your rear wheel, rest your elbows on your saddle to steady the camera, and frame the shot.

This first example is from the saddle of my Scott Sub 10, which I have converted into a sort of modern roadster. Or I suppose you might call it a utility bike - because it is the bike I go to for most of my riding - that basket up front is just perfect for my camera bag, for instance. If I ever decide to commute by bicycle, this will be my mount. Specs are impressive: Shimano Alfine 8 IGH, driven by a gates belt drive, all of which can be brought to a halt by hydraulic disc brakes - all modern conveniences that were not around when I first took up cycling. The rest of my bikes would be considered C&V, or Classic and Vintage...

[IMG][/IMG]

This next image is from the saddle of my 1991 Specialized Rock-Hopper, modified into a Curb-Hopper cargo bike. This I have converted to a Deore XT 1 x 10 drivetrain, with a 34t chainring driving an 11-40t cassette. The baskets are lined with wood slats, just like a classic pickup truck, and the bike is just perfect for the Farmer's Market or grocery runs.

I look forward to seeing the view from other saddles in here. Thanks for looking...
Doing this is nothing new.
Going by the title you put one + the very high viewership received ----- that could only be 'cause the viewers had assumed, before reading the thread, the thread was cyclist within (a) jail/prison (b) law-enforcement experience.

So, what's your point? Or are you just having a bad day?

The amount of 50-60° days out riding since I should have put the bike away back in November definitely trumps having 2 small snow squalls blow through in April.

If I tally up the numbers including November and December of last year together for winter, I have more miles than I had all of the rest of last spring, summer, and fall.

I have been lucky and have got to do it for the last 7 years, doesn't suck at all.

This thread just keeps on getting better!

My Leica is misbehaving at the moment, so I've got to get that sorted before I can submit any more images here.

Please, keep them coming!
