My first ride of the year was the local club's New Years Day ride. I decided to skip the potential "superspreader" large group start and meet them on the way to the halfway rest stop. I was lucky to join the route just ahead of the first bunch of about 10 fast young guys, and my regular ride buddies were in the second small group. We reached the park turnaround in the first few dozen riders, so we were able to grab our coffees and pastries and avoid the crowd before most of the 150+ riders arrived.
Not many C & V bikes. My Nishiki Altron, Mike's Motobecane Team Champion that he's had since it was new, and Tom's DeRosa.

Mine look like that too. I never do much to keep my loves clean, and in any case, reaching down to glove your tires after riding through a patch of glass is all it takes to really crud up your bar tape. Not to mention the lasting effects of changing a flat.

Lots of water in that Willamette River today.
And trees, and sticks, and gas cans.
Seems like we dodged a lot of the really heavy PNW weather. Sounds like Washington got its a@@ kicked. Hope everyone is okay up there.

My son Chris was here for about a month and had to decide how to get back to Portland during Omicron. He decided to take Amtrak and paid for a "roomette" so he didn't have to mingle too much. The trip was supposed to take two days. It departed Chicago Tuesday afternoon. Everything was fine until Spokane. Chris was supposed to switch to a Portland-bound train, but there was a derailment on that line, so they continued toward Everett with the intention that Portland-bound passengers would head south from there.
They got as far as Wenatchee Thursday mid-morning, then were held there all day because of (I think) another derailment. Eventually they got off and made it to hotels for the night. Back on the train Friday morning and off they went, only to get stuck in the Cascades. They had to wait for a second engine to extricate the train, then it was back to Wenatchee for a second night. Today they backed out to Spokane (mudslide between Seattle and Portland took out that track, so going via Everett and Seattle wasn't really an option). Last I heard around 5pm Central Time, he was going to stick it out on the train to Portland.

Thankful as always to post this thread
Today’s ride - took the triple chainring - proved that hiking is an acceptable xtrain for me.
Anyway - pics.
Low sun,mid-40s, well dressed for warmth. Only 15 mi. But fun on the Batavus.
Water was not a prob on the ride, except trickles across the road. Dampness in every shadowed patch, grit to the right of the white (fog) line.
And it means = ALL the time.
A foot of snow over several days, a week mostly below freezing = flattened some of the bog.
The bog getting boggy - water on right of pic

Nearing sundown, better start heading home.
Nice day Saturday - 50 degrees. Between Española and Pojoaque, along US 285.

Advancing Parkinson's = quick engagement of brakes a downside with twitchy hands.
Stay flexible my friend.
On all my Ergo = give me room to let my fingers caress the silky carbon-ness. WithOUT engaging the brakes.
Clear your handlebars and your mind will follow.

40 miles in and around Peoria, AZ. Got a flat which was fixed in a jiffy using my trusty Spin Doctor CO2 inflator; really cannot recommend these lifesavers enough.
But! The valve core was a bit loose, so the CO2 leaked out a bit in the time it took to screw down the little brass end piece and replace the cap. As a result, the tire was a bit squishy (rear) on the way home so I put it in the small ring and just toodled the final 5 miles. Stopped at my LBS and picked up a valve core remover to solve that issue - and almost got run down by a boob in a black SUV doing 30mph+ in the parking lot
And eventful day.

very perty bike Wild one.
i require more gears than that.
we are in different camps on the brake reach.
i have small arthritic hands.
i have some stoppers that bring the levers closer to my stubby mitts.
Anyway, that is a lovely rig.
