Just around the block to test out a Centurion IM ('87) that I just picked up in kinda rough shape... still have some work to do, but it'll make a nice beater bike soon

Today I tried this thing I’ve heard people are doing. It’s called “riding a bike outside”. Third outdoors ride of the year and first one that involved more than toodling around the streets of my town. Stiff breeze but nice sunshine, not cold, and the wind was at my back for the home stretch. This was the first proper ride on the Masi and I am pleased!

Downtown Boonesville VA, a suburb of Free Union.

Got in my coffee group ride in the morning and finally got in my test ride on the Moto. Didn't get to far for lack of brakes but the ride was nice.

Very nice drop conversion not the way I would go but looks pretty nice and functional. Nice modern big range cassette with triggers and old school friction tipple lever on front DT have not seen this setup. would like to know what all a components you used are and how good it works?

Thanks - It's a bit of a modern/vintage mix, as I wanted all the functionality/convenience of the brifter (for rear, at least), wider range, capable tires, but tried to keep the aesthetic somewhat intact. New parts I used are Shimano Deore M592 RD (long cage), Shimano HG400 cassette (9spd, 11-36), my old Shimano 105 9spd brifter, KMC X9XL chain and tektro R559 brake calipers (and of course the Bontrager Paradigm TLR 622x19 wheelset). I kept the original SunTour friction shifter for the 2x chainring (Custom Crankset, as was spec'd originally)... and fitted a campagnolo front brake lever to replace the old dual-lever on that side. It works really nicely together, no issues once I got it all aligned. I could probably go with a single chainring up front with the wide range cassette in the rear, but I'm not that concerned with weight-saving so I'm just going to keep the extra range of having 2x and original crankset. So I guess a lot of new stuff, but it makes the bike so much nicer to ride!

Yes it is nice with the wide range rear indexed and simple double front you avoid the need for double shifting that you get with a classic triple front and medium range rear. which isn't very drop bar friendly.

It's been unseasonably warm and dry here recently, so @gugie and I headed out today for a climb up Old Germantown Road to Skyline and then Logie Trail back to civilization. We stopped at Mason Hill Park to use one of my favorite out houses (I just liked the fact that there was an out house at this park in the middle of nowhere), only to find that the out house had been removed and I had to water a tree like a normal cyclist. Here's a picture from Mason Hill Park (but not of the tree watering).

leftthread sorry for the late reply, but yes, you are exactly right, This pic I posted upthread of Leadenhall market....

....does indeed have an exit that leads onto the famous inside out Lloyds building. If you head straight ahead in the pic above you come out on the left on the pic below, which is at the back of the Lloyds building.

I was there today, so here's a pic of it from the front.

It's over 35 years old now and still looks as modern and futuristic as it did when it opened in 1986. By having all the ducts, lifts and vents on the outside of the building it maximises space on the interior, however having those things on the outside exposed to our rubbish weather, means it costs Lloyds a fortune in maintenance. As the building is home to one of the largest insurance brokers in the world, I'd expect them to be able to arrange cover for that

My plan for today was to track down some new art works over in east London. It was 20-30mph winds in London today, and thankfully for my ride out east, it was on my back. I flew over there in no time, briefly making me feel a few orders of magnitude more awesome as a cyclist, the return leg later would of course convert me into a feeble heavy breathing figure seemingly engaged in herculean effort to maintain even the most modest of forward progress, but that was for later, for now let me bask in my fleeting magnificence.

I decided to go via the Olympic Park so cut through Hackney Wick, where I discovered this Wylie Coyote type artwork threatening to cut the cable and drop an anvil onto passers-by in the street below.

I then went to the cycling velodrome in the Olympic park, nicknamed the Pringle for obvious reasons.

The pole my bike is leaning against had what I thought was an elaborate CCTV set up, but closer inspection revealed that it was more than just a CCTV post....

In nearby Bromley-by-Bow there is another recent sculpture, and considering London's long and diverse history a long overdue one. Called "reaching out" it is London's first statue of a black woman created by a black sculptor, Thomas J Price. More info here: https://londonist.com/london/art-and...e-line-artwork

At 9 feet tall she makes my 61cm frame look like a kids bike. To me as a cyclist this could also represent the worldwide phenomenon of the phone zombie, so engrossed in their phones they are oblivious to the world around them, and is about to step out into a path or road somewhere near you any minute now
I loop back up through Hackney Wick to photograph a new eye art work. I think I've posted one of these somewhere on this forum before. They are very clever and its not in fact drawn or painted, but is made up of lines of thread tide around pins on the outside of the circle, and pulled tight back to and from across the circle to make up the image.

Here is another piece I've seen by them recently down at Leake Street tunnel, one of my regular spots to visit for new artworks.

...and here's another in Brick Lane where the thread has come loose, and the top the image is unravelling, and like a dog running away with a lose thread from your woolly jumper you watch as it disappears before your eyes.

I think they're great, and in the first of the images above I notice a signature, 'perspicere" and I realise I've seen that name before. I rush home to go through my pic archive and low and behold I found a pic of the artists previous yarn bombing that I photographed in Shoreditch 4 years ago. It too was made up of threads tied back and forth, this time in brightly coloured wool, Is it Cyclops Scott from the X-men maybe?

So that was super cool to make that connection, and nice to see their work around London again. Buoyed by this I'm not bothered by the driving rain for the rest of the journey home, stopping only for my final dash of colour for the day, to photograph the painted vents outside the Cheese grater building,

Back home to put soggy wet clothes on the radiator, another weekend closer to summer, but still a good dose of colour for a soggy Sunday in February.

I met up with fellow BFer davester for a gorgeous ride around the East Bay. 43 miles and about 4400' climbing in sunny mid-70s summer winter California weather. I rode out from my house in the Berkeley flats to Dave's house nestled in redwoods adjacent to Tilden Park in the hills. From there we headed east toward Lafayette and Morago/St. Mary's College via Wildcat Canyon and Happy Valley Road and then back to Berkeley via Pinehurst and Grizzly Peak Rd. Dave was riding his trusted Ron Cooper and I was continuing my honeymoon with my recently-built Colnago.

Here's Dave at the summit of the Pinehurst Cyn climb. Not the best lighting.

60+ miles locally (AZ); had an interesting mechanical which necessitated standing for the final 15 miles:

Perhaps I can repair this thing - the separation is pretty clean.

Mrs non-fixie and I spent the weekend in Belgian Limburg. The weather forecast wasn't very promising, but we brought a couple of bikes anyway. As it turned out, it was sunny, cold and windy, so with a pair of gloves and a wool hat it was doable, and we did a couple of ~60k rides.

The area has a really good cycling infrastructure, and it was easy to find some nice routes in what is called the Hoge Kempen.

We came across a few interesting attractions as well. This ride up to a cycle bridge, for instance:

View from the bridge:

Expect Belgian ski jumpers at the next winter Olympics:

Kids enjoying a bike park on their mountain bikes, BMX bikes and scooters:

On the way back this morning we stopped at something called 'riding through the trees'. It turned out to be a circular ramp in the middle of a forest that takes you up and down ten meters in 720 degrees. A rather cool piece of art.

Did some work on the Mesa GSX which was slipping on some gears switched the chain and clean up a couple of cogs seemed fine. So I took a test break in ride to Pike national forest which is closed to motor vehicles but still a lot of illegal snow mobile riding tearing up the road and parts of the park.

Some pretty heavy snow pack considering it was bear about a month ago.

Stopped at the bridge with a foot of packed snow and ice on it.

60 miles of test riding after repairing my saddle; all good!

First, I rode out to the scene of the crime via the New River Trail:

Came across this fellow 7.6-percenter riding in complete Army cycling kit; I had to work up a good sweat to stay within 100' of him:

Then, I used the Arizona Canal Trail to cross to the old neighborhood:

Plugged a lot of quarters into video games and air hockey tables inside this building as a teen:

Light Rail ramps at Metrocenter Mall:

I've probably carved this hairpin over 5,000 times since the late 70s; Metrocenter Mall's inner perimeter road was my favorite cycling circuit back in the day. The mall is slated for demolition this year:

My conveyance for the day:

Warmer temps but gloomy, overcast skies and threat of rain led to choice of the fendered and lighted Heron. Rode one of my standard routes through Albemarle County. Blue Ridge mountains kept the rain penned up to the West but not the wind though. Even got a little sunshine at the end and was able to peel the arm warmers down.
