Yeah, that Serotta is hot!
Well it’s always time to think about your Eroica bike, but now it’s getting close to time to really think about it. I just bought a couple of IRD 13-32 freewheels so tried one out on the Paletti today. I’m pleased to say it plays nicely with the Super Record crank and RD. Nice sunshine today but brutal cold gale force winds kept the ride short and limited to tackling a few hills around UVA Grounds.
Next to McCormick Observatory looking east at Carter’s Mountain

It's actually the $15 thrift store catch of the day model! It shows plenty of abuse including a significant dent in the down tube, but it's a pretty good 10 foot bike. I think my wife's single bike days are over, too, so I may reclaim the pink SPDs from her bike to dress it up a little more.

Did the longest ride on my rebuilt Bianchi. I still have 1 problem to figure out, hopefully the work after the ride I did will get rid of the squeak that shows up after 20 miles.
30 mostly flat miles to Stanford and back. This picture is next to the Stanford golf course.

40 miles of quality goofing around. I explored a less well-known corner of the Point Reyes National Seashore today.
There are a handful of steep dirt roads that drop down from the spine of the Point Reyes Peninsula to the shores of Tomales Bay, a long narrow bay formed by the San Andreas Fault, responsible for the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake. These little roads are gated to keep cars out but no signage to indicate that they are off limits to cyclists and hikers. I spent the day exploring these roads and didn't see a single person on any of them.
All of the roads end at the edge of the bay; one at a marine laboratory, a couple at the sites of old homesteads, and a couple at some pretty little beaches.
I got to spend some quality time with the resident bovines since my route included about a half mile of cross country cow paths.
The Douglas Irises are out in large numbers.

Been laid low since Thursday after getting my Moderna #2. Although my left shoulder still aches (what do they put in that shot?!), I felt good enough today to put another 60+ miles on my repaired saddle. Got a bit of climbing in during the last 20 miles, too.
Heroes Regional Park fishing hole and library in Glendale, just off the Grand Canal Trail:
Davidson at the top of the 7th Street climb to Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort:
Yeah, it's as steep as it looks! The climb up to Different Pointe of View restaurant:
Those hills in the middle distance mark the end of today's ride:

Winding my way back down from the summit at the Pointe Resort:
Opened in 1982, the Resort, tucked away on Lookout Mountain, is still in fantastic shape:
Almost home...

I didn't ride today but Thank You for the inspiration. I especially liked the pictures of Point Reyes. I lived in San Francisco in the early 80's. Those pictures sure bring back some great memories of my younger self out exploring.

Made it out to the Velodrome in Northbrook. Unfortunately, the gate was locked. That's okay. I wasn't riding a track bike, not even a fixie. The bad news is that I turned away from the bike for a moment to avoid the glare of the sun on my phone. Mother Nature took the opportunity to blow a puff of wind just string enough to tip the bike over, right on the Cyclone GT derailleur. I'm not sure the pulley cage will ever be the same. I won't have a chance to check it out for at least a week as we'll be out of town.

I rode up to Woodside to ride with a C&V group. There were about 10-12 of us. Then rode home. Total was 68 miles, the longest ride so far on the new Bianchi. There were a lot of really cool bikes on the ride.

We took a short trip to Eastern Washington this weekend, and brought our bikes along. Only managed to get out before the sun went down yesterday. The wind was terrible. Mid forties felt like mid thirties.
Regardless, it was nice to ride with Thomas.

Last night I installed a Red Clover triplizer with a 32t small ring on my Colnago, along with a new BB, long cage for the Super Record RD, and a couple more chain links. This morning I headed out for nice, 25-mile, chilly & hilly loop. It was great having the extra gears on the steeper sections of the ride, though it takes a bit more finesse to shift across all three rings up front.

Did you solve the squeaking problem you discovered on the last ride? When I noted you'd also oiled the derailleur pulleys in addition to all the other fixes, I figured you'd got all the bases covered. I solved a mysterious squeaking on my last ride of my '73 Colnago Super, which turned out to be lack of lubrication at the rear derailleur pulleys. First - and so far only - time I've experienced that issue; go figure.

Glendora Mountain Road on this Carrera. It was glorious, albeit a bit chilly. Met a very nice person riding a late 70’s Bruce Gordon. Beautiful lug work.

Outside! For the first time since early December. We've been out of town, the one or two times temps have been above 45 degrees, so I've been in the basement on the trainer/Zwift.
Today, in Maryland, we had temps near 70 degrees.
I got home after 5:30 PM, and after changing, pulling my bike off the trainer and upstairs, I had about 15 minutes of passable daylight.
I was anxious to try out my new Redshift Shockstop stem! I got in just under 4 miles before prudence had me back in the garage.
My wife looked at me like I was nuts, I might just be, but it was a glorious 15 minutes. I bunny-hopped the railroad tracks at the bottom of a 30 mph descent, and the stem was great, no issues.
A real test on the C&O Canal will have to wait, temps will be plunging back into the 20's by the weekend.
Come on Springtime and Daylight savings!

I had shuttled a group of youngsters to the skating rink at Oaks Amusement Park (one of the oldest in the country) and had a couple of hours to burn in drizzly, forty degree weather, so I did a 10 mile loop on the Willamette River mup. That sucker was empty! I had some time to spare, so I poodled around the empty midway when I got back and tried to take cool pictures.
Chipper’s Choppers was really popular with my daughter when she was little.
They were doing lots of winter maintenance with trees, and I came across this. Someone made a nice chainsaw throne, but the stump was completely empty! Not sure what the plan is; fill it with concrete?

Yeah, the woop de do’s look like fun. Never tried skates, not trying them now! The whole floor is built on barrels so that it can float inside the building if the river floods. I guess it has happened once or twice.
