Did my first "real" ride (i.e., more than pedaling around the neighborhood for a few minutes a couple of weeks ago) since my crash on 02/10. Rode from Cupertino up to Foothill and Arastradero by way of Mary Avenue pedestrian/bicycle bridge; thus avoiding the I-280 off-ramps from Foothill which I'm not yet quite prepared for. Stopped at Peet's and chatted with friends. Ended up with 22 miles.
I had gone to see the Dr. at Stanford Hospital on Friday and asked him if it was OK for me to ride. After rolling his eyes a bit he said "OK, but wear a helmet". That was all I needed!

Drove down to do Solvang Double on Saturday ... yes, Saturday. Rained for about 130 of the 200 miles, but at least I completed it. What's with doubles this year ... every one of them with mother nature being tempermental. I have a feeling for what it's like to ride the classics.

Wait... You drove down on Saturday**********
At what time did your day start? While you were at it, did you drive back on Saturday as well?

Did a quick 30 mile loop - Homestead, Foothill, Moody, Page Mill, Foothill, Homestead, Home.
Played with hill repeats on the section of Moody between the 10mph U-curve (at Canyon Rd) up to Page Mill a couple of times - trying to improve my climbing on the Raleigh so I can make it all the way up to Skyline/35. I can do it on the touring bike but that has psycho-low gearing, compared to the Raleigh.

Rode out to Kings for some fun hill repeats. Then took my motorcycle for a spin around the mountains. That was a mistake. Legs were screaming, almost got a cramp in my left calf. It hurt like hell.

74 miles 4899 feet climbing on a loop out of Fairfield. Took in Mankas Corners, Gordon Valley, Hwy 121 to Moscovite corner, then 128 up and over Cardiac. Back to Fairfield via Pleasants Valley Rd Over both sides of Cantelow and then Mix Canyon to just past the first 23% bump. The creek in Mix Canyon was roaring with powerful white water falls.
Rode with ccorlew and mylilpony.
Wanted to take a breather from all the hard DMD training and just go for a ride in the country. We had a great time.
Cat 6 racing was in full effect a couple times. ccorlew dropped me on the Hwy 121 climb, but I got him back on Cardiac.

Had fun. First ride over 40 miles in ages it seems. Happy for a no-rain day.

As for me, this was my first time on the bike since at least the third weekend in February. A wonderful anniversary weekend getaway, crappy weather, work demands, lousy weather, family obligations and awful weather will do that.
So today, I headed off from the edge of Livermore with bigbossman and MarkoPolo on an out-and-back along Mines Road. Nonstop overcast, but the greenery and the rushing Arroyo Mocho Creek made for a wonderful day.
The plan was to go to the Junction and back, but when we got to the bottom of the climb to the county line, we encountered one of the places where there is no bridge over the creek. The first one a few miles earlier was only a few inches deep. This one was more like a foot, and the water was moving pretty fast. Mark and I watched John ride across (his foot was partially under water at the bottom of his pedal stroke) and we looked at each other and agreed that this was not a good idea. This was about 20.5 miles into the ride. No amount of cajolling and conjuring up images of riding in skirts or our respective sisters' cullottes could change Mark's or my mind - the fact that we feeling pretty beat already from the climbing also contributed to our decision.
In the end. John recrossed (without pedalling this time) and we retraced our route back to town and a belated lunch at Emil Villa's. (BTW, going from 500-ish feet elevation to a bit over 2,000 feet takes significantly longer than going from a bit over 2,000 feet to 500-is feet. Who knew? ) 41 miles, something over 2,000 feet, and at least one pair of sore legs that I will feel tomorrow. But Lordy, did it feel good to be out on the road again.

Tour of the Unknown Valley up in the Chico area. 80 miles with the wife on the tandem, 65 of them being delightful. Last 15 were into a stiff head wind that put us to the test...wife was a champ though and finished strong. Good stuff

arastadaro -> OLH -> 84 (east) today
84 was interesting... top half was wet with a muddy water mixture. braked a bit more than I usually do of course. i was an idiot and decided to pump up my tires nice and high today so i had less grip than i could have
spent a good 10 mins wiping down the bike. white bikes are hard to keep clean

72 miles, 5500 feet of climbing, got lost twice. Did not enjoy Hwy 88. The rest was amazing.

The Cinderella Classic, 66.8 miles (the metric), with two friends and 2500 other fabulous women. It was more like a Sunday stroll, but a very well organized and run stroll! SAG saved us when my friend Cath blew a bead on her rear tire and needed a new one. We kept our pace up, 14.3 MPH over the 66 miles, and we had a BLAST!
