Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many miles do pro's bike a year?

Hey everyone!

I am preparing for an informative speech and I would like to mention how pros train. I have been googling so much, but had no luck so far.

Does anybody know how many miles the pros train or even better how many miles total they get down every year?

thanks so much!

Alex

I don't think they worry about miles so much as quality hours.

at the start of the Tour de California...I remember one of the announcers(may have been Bob) stating "by the end of the season, some of these riders will have riden nearly 30,000 miles....that's more than most people put on a car in a year." I don't know how accurate that is, but I remember that quote almost word for word.

Nomination for post of the day!

I'll bet the average(??) pro gets in at least 20 hours a week. So, maybe 1000 hours of biking a year? This doesn't include weight training of course.

Gotta be more than that. I was pulling 20 a week in August. I work full time time, too (3rd shift has its advantages ).

Average everyday cyclists ride twice that much ... I'd put the pros at 3 or 4 times that much.
