SOLD: 25.5" (63cm) 1978 Raleigh Super Course Frameset + Extras

This is a project that I'm not going to complete. I completely disassembled this, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Reynolds 531. Suntour GS polished dropouts. 63 cm x 57 cm C-C. Head tube is 22.4 cm. 120 rear spacing. Original crank, stem, heasdset, brakes and seatpost. Shimano cartridge BB. Brand new adjustable brake pads. I can't remember if the Nitto bars are original or not. Plenty of scratches and some stickers on the ST. No dents or gouges or the like.

This is a great single speed, commuter or conversion candidate.

SOLD $120 net of fees. Buyer covers shipping. More pics here.

This slightly racier version of the classic Super Course is perfect as an all-rounder, imo. I love mine. Good luck with the sale.

That's a sharp color...
Does it use shifters on the end of handlebars or downtube?
I know that most SuperCourse models used bar end shifts...
How much money are you seeking for it and where is location?

This particular Super Course model probably came with bar end shifters but that doesn't do anything to change the current setup. There is still a 'pip' on the downtube for holding the shifter clamp in place exactly like models that came equipped with down tube shifters. The handlebars also shouldn't be affected in any way, given that the Suntour bar end shifters did not usually get channeled through the bars.

This is a bargain, period. If it's your size, you would be hard pressed to find a better value, these are revered greatly by most all who know of them. I and my son have had them, both since stolen but we had his in the concourse show at Leroica Cal in 2017 where it drew a crowd all day long right next to all the Masi's, Cinelli's, Bianchi's and every other classic marque you can imagine.

Everyone at our motel that was there for the ride also stopped, commented, complimented and admired it as well, very few bikes at this level carry anywhere near the street cred and overall appreciation that these do, they are fantastic riders given their particular station.

I am tempted as it is my size but so are 20 or more of my bikes so.......

If I were you I would get it on.

The other posters are correct. This model originally came with bar end shifters, but the downtube has a brazed on stop/nub and band clamp downtube shifters can easily be used. Price is $120 net to me and I am in Louisville, KY 40205.

This is that model that punches above its weight, also proving that you don't need super expensive frame tubes to have a superb ride.

These are great bikes. I started at almost the same point on my '78 SC. Mine didn't include a crank, which, without the dimpled chain stay, was a challenge. Found a close to OEM Sakae Apex 52/42 that works fine. Did 44 miles yesterday on it. I used a 34t 6 speed Megarange freewheel, Suntour VGT Luxe and Cyclone II FD, Suntour bar cons, and $10 Shimano Exage aero levers which feel great. Fun bike for relatively cheap. I did splurge on the Brooks. Yours is too big for me, but somebody should buy this one. Looks good in red. I also have a '73 SC with similar drivetrain and wheels, and the gold '78 feels somehow more lively.
Where I started.

Yesterday's ride.

Thanks for the building info re '78 SuperCourse.. Looks to be standard fare for componentry from those days, Suntour, etc. Gonna try to scoop it if still available. BTW, your beige model is nice.

Still available? I'm interested.

FWIW, the kurtkaminer.com/ Headbadge site lists the original handle bars as "Raleigh Italienne alloy". So, the Nitto Olympiad bars seem like period correct replacements. The photos look good and your description of the frame condition seems accurate. Is the frame straight? Can it be ridden "no-hands"?

You list your preferred contact as email. So, if still available, I'll follow-up that way regarding acquisition logistics.

Thanks.
