The hold up on my '89 has been a very stuck fixed Cup. After a few days of soaking and Frugal ingenuity it's OFF.
But it was worth it for the Dura Ace BB @markwesti going on there.....if it fits.
I like Shimano and Dura Ace is my favorite. I think the 9 speed (7700) was the last good looking Crankset.
Gonna ride with my riding buddy tomorrow morning so hopefully the rest of the build goes easily.

Have not seen every which way but loose for a long time. Ima have to revisit that one soon!

Been playing with modern wheels from post 80's era. Have no business with these things really. But what the heck, found them cheap plus they look cool. Got a cosmic and ksyrium and a couple of carbons hoops to screw around with. Hopefully they all true out.

My pic? Its my boy's Le Mans, not an IM. Factory fork. Just tooled up and down the street last night, first ride ever on a carbon wheel. Wasn't quite straight.. I'll try to find my spoke wrench tonight.. This wheel set came with a broken axle, so I'm not sure if the rims are tweaked or not yet.

Man my '89 Summertime Blues Ironman is ready to roll. After a Muther of a fixed cup and figuring out the little differences to 7400 dura ace series, it's DONE!
So my goal of '86 6 speed, '87 7 speed, '88 8 speed, and now '89 9 speed has been achieved. The '87 Miami Vice is the only one basically stock, all the others are Dura Ace.
I have one more goal to go...The '85 "OG". Thanks to Markwesti I have a lead on one but I need to take a better look at it. But when I get one it's gonna be electronic shifting and not Shimano. Oh its gonna happen.

I haven't taken it for a shake down ride, however I'm heading out at 730 in the morning with my riding buddy, so we'll see. Later Iron Kids.

Well I went on my first ride with the 7700 components on my '89.
I put my aero seatpost back on figuring the 175 cranks would make up for the shorter length post....but no. Turns out the crank was 172.5 So I put the longer seatpost back on. Also had to move the saddle back and raise stem.
I got dropped again! Wish I could blame it on the stiff shifting to bigger gear but Nope. However I did WD 40 spray the brifters then oil them, so there's that.
The thing is, the groupset was in pretty good clean shape so I didn't bother to excessively clean before installing per normal.
Well after all these adjustments I will be going for shakedown ride after lunch.

Heh! The bits and bobs I'm transferring to a Diamondback Podium frame came from a decade-old Trek Equinox, an entry level TT/tri-bike. Heavy aluminum frame, complete bike probably weighs 30 lbs. Minor crack in weld at top of seat tube, probably not dangerous but I'm not taking a chance. Don't really care for the riding position of a dedicated aero TT bike anyway, and the frame was a 54cm, too small for me anyway.

The previous owner added some odd but nice mix-matched components, like a Dura Ace RD. The original group was 105. But it'll all work on the Diamondback frame.

My tablet battery charge ran out right when I was about to take a pic of
my '89. Since my bike was clean , I went ahead and used my phone. Bad pic but good bike.
A run down on change of components from basically stock to Dura Ace 7700 9 speed.
BB, Crankset, FD, RD, Brifters, Brakeset, and Chain are all Dura Ace. Ultegra hubs on some mavic hoops.
Walmart (bell) cables and inner tube wrap for that frugal look

Haha, well admittedly it's not as cushioned as the tube wrap on my other bikes. My other bikes have aero bars and I don't use all the tube whereas on this road bar I Gotta stretch the tube a bit. I'm thinking of using 26 inch mountain bike tube instead.

Well Mr Westi, this is a 52cm instead of my preferd 54cm. So I need the extra seatpost. Since it's my only "road bike" and the one I plan on riding on club rides, it works out good. When most last decade bikies see my bikes they think my 54cm are too big. Mostly because they are used to seeing the new carbon bikes with slanted top tubes that show a LOT of seatpost. So this'll fit ride in. Hehe

Ugh! That tube wrap almost makes it a 2 bagger or a Cincinnati Bengal. That rubber could get abrasive on a long ride. Which is a segway. But first, I think I owe tex a favor. I can send him out some good stuff. The question for the thread is which color? I have blue, black or white. Take a look and let me know. The blue is sweet. I have it on an old French bike with a matching Zefal Solobloc pump. Styling and profiling!

You're thinking, "where did that segway come from?"

Well, remember I ran the Marine Corps Marathon a couple of weeks ago. When I entered the Wear Blue Mile,(look it up) it started raining about as hard as it was when Forest Gump and Lieutenant Dan were caught in the hurricane. In fact, I was having kind of a Lieutenant Dan moment. "FTS, this is the ****tiest race I have ever ran!" Then I started looking at those pictures with the people standing behind them holding flags. My attitude changed immediately. Suddenly, it was a great day to be running! About that time I got passed by, or passed a young lady on a racing cart/wheelchair. She was in her early 20s at best. The cart was not a hand cranker, but a wheel pusher instead. Two things stuck out about this girl. One, she was extremely attractive. Two, she was pushing the wheels barehanded. No gloves on those delicate hands. I thought about how tough she was or at least her palms were because..........those wet rubber wheels are abrasive and will chew up her palm skins after a while. I know mine would have been chewed up.

There is your segway.
