The air was ok yesterday, but I noticed when riding in a burn area (because everything is a burn area around here), I was sucking in a lot of toxic spew, especially going up-hill.
How long does it take for a burn area to cease being a respiratory threat? The fire went through about a month ago now, but probably some root systems are still smoldering, and I think a lot of the ground cover that burned was poison oak.
The other nasty thing is loads of people whose houses didn't burn have taped up their refrigerators and put them out on the road, presumably with their rotting contents inside. The smell is quite off-putting.
This is about 200 meters from where I live:

Never ending. Hope these new fires up in Napa get put out safely.
On a related note, here goes our AQI again. It's showing 90 in our area right now but gosh darned it I'm going out on my ride because I was looking forward to it!

On the plus side, my garage is pretty well sealed off from the smoky outside air, so I'm not breathing much of that crap while Zwifting.
On the minus side, my garage is pretty well sealed off from the outside air, so an hour on Zwift turns my "Pain Cave" into a Pain Swamp.

Been another very dry year here. Another drought year. 
I'm already reading about small wildfires in both North and South California.
If I (we) do not already have enough to worry about.
I'm up around Auburn, Ca and also own a house in Oregon. I'm still trying to process all the fires and all that was lost in both states last year.
My house in Oregon is not in a wildfire zone. But here in Ca we are right at the start of the sierra mountains , and we chat about seeing more and more dead/brown pine trees in the area and around town. Lots of younger trees get stress from lack of water and the bark beetle moves in and kills the tree.
Not sure about more mature/older trees.
Hope we do not need a 2021 NorCal Fire Thread

I'm finding it hard to get motivated to ride in the burned areas, but this thread reminds me of just how much worse it can get (and unfortunately most likely will this summer, as it is bone-dry here and stopped raining about a month ago).

Creeks are already dry here. I've been driving for work up some fire-hit areas that I've enjoyed biking through in the past, and they've been hit hard. But this winter had less than half the average rainfall, and it looks like we're done with rain again until October. We're just finishing up approvals on fire rebuilds from 2017, and you drive up in the hills and can't help but wonder who's next?

- No rain? Dry fuel, bad fire year.
- Lots of rain? lots of fuel, bad fire year.
- Early end of the wet season? - long time for fuels to dry, bad fire year.
- Late end of the wet season? - too much growth, bad fire year.
In any case, I'm not letting my Zwift subscription lapse.
