a $169,999 bicycle? really?
I have no idea how I came across this, but I'm starting to think the bicycle community is crazy. A $169,999 bicycle? Did the 9 key get stuck? Who buys that? is this a joke? For $170,000, I'd rather buy 340 Eurobikes, I could ride a new one almost each day of the year.

Edit: I looked it up on Felt's website, it's $16,999, not $169,999 as listed at MomentBicycles as a typo.. I don't imagine too many people have a $170k credit limit to add it to their cart and check out.

That's simply how much pro level bikes cost. But it's only crazy if you are not a pro. Comparing the cost against an airplane or car or whatever else is irrelevant. Nobody is going to win a pro TT race in a 2-seater airplane. Top level pro gear in any sport is always extremely expensive with massive diminishing returns on value.

Gear advantages are sought in virtually every sport, except maybe wrestling, boxing, and martial arts.

I tend to think that all pro team bikes are actually very closely matched as to make little or no difference to the results. Does it really matter whether you are on a Pinarello, Cervelo, Trek, Canyon or Specialized, etc? Pros can win or lose on all those bikes. I don't think there is a stand-out choice. It's not like F1 racing where you need to be in the right car to stand any chance at all.

I doubt very much if the bike makes any difference - they’re all aero, they all conform to the same weight limits and basic design regulations, and use a very limited range of drivetrains. Any differences are largely aesthetic.

"pedals sold separately" Clearly this is a ruse to lure in the customer with the price of the bike only to really rake him or her with the cost of pedals.

If you think about it, gear just levels the playing field. Every UCI level team has the same equipment in terms of performance, or at least available to them. Eneos is a dominant team because if personnel. Same with Quickstep and Jumbo Visma.

Hell yeah! the champion is the one who trains harder, wants it more, and is more genetically gifted. not the one who has lighter expensive wrestling shoes or better gloves. there is a reason the bars show UFC, not Tour De France. Next time I'll throw a joke at my friends "hey, instead of the fights, let's go watch skinny guys in tights ride bicycles"

Wins have almost nothing to do with the equipment.

Fortunately my credit card can't take a $170,000 hit or otherwise I might have been tempted.

Troll or not, it doesn't matter. The threads entertain and this recent comment by OP was funny:
I have gone out to bars with buddies to watch UFC, and could easily imagine the looks and laughs I'd get if I proposed the quoted question. The key here, (and it may have been unintentional by OP) is using the word "ride" instead of race. Race lends itself to thoughts of speed, danger and excitement, whereas ride just makes it sound all the more silly.

I have three of them, it's important to always carry a spare bicycle on group rides in case you have a mechanical difficulty.
