Nice to read a review of a mid level bike. So many reviews are just of the top of the line bikes.
I used to have a similar Miyata, a 1988 312. Wonderful riding bike.

I refurbished a friends 312 two summers ago. I totally agree about nice the bike was. I had to put some miles on after putting it back together and nothing about the ride was mid level. I was a good performer.

Interesting. I wonder if the same frame steps up a model or two and that’s why it feels so racy. Apparently it is easily converted to 700c wheels.

The description of the frame as bieng triple butted cro-moly with fork and stays of manganese steel sounds the same as the more basic 110 model.

Nice looking bike. Any idea of weight? With just the frame, fork, and wheels about 20 lbs I’m think north of 30 lbs?

Looking at the wall thicknesses of the downtube (1.2/0.9/1.0), I think I now understand why I never cared for any of the Miyata road bikes I test-rode back in the 80s. They're just too stiff for my taste, even in my 58-59 size range. Heck, my League Fuji is almost too stiff for me, with it's 1.0/0.7/0.6/0.9 quad-butted tubeset, and it's a much longer bike... 43.2 mm chainstays vs 41.6 on the Miyata, 50 mm rake / 50 mm trail vs 47.6 / 54. Plus, it's a 61, instead of the 58 it was advertised as when I bought it.
I've decided that I don't like really stiff bikes.
