cannondale sm800 - road tires?
hi,
I am looking at buying my gf a 1987 cannondale sm800 for $200. I would like to know if I can put on road tires and what is the size of the wheels. Thinking of converting to a sort of a hybrid bike. Your comments please.

if i'm not mistaken... it has 26 in wheels. you can put slicks on it, but not actual road tires like on a road bike.
is the bike in good shape?

I did this to my Cannondale SM1000 which I think is a similar bike. I'd suggest looking on Performance Bike's website and the sizing of 26" x1.25 or 1.5" Their house brand Forte tires have worked great for me and are inexpensive. You'll also want to pick up some tubes for the thinner tires. It'll make a very noticeable difference on the road.

If you have typical 26" mountain bike wheels from around 1987, they probably have old-school, wide boxy rims on them like an Araya CV-7. You can probably run as narrow as a 26X1.5 tire on them. Or 26X1.4 if you go with a Ritchey Tom Slick. Tioga makes City Slickers in a bunch of sizes too. Primo makes a 26X1.25 that takes up to 100psi, but I don't know what rims you got so that size might not work.
