80’s Cinelli-Made Ciocc w/ Unknown forks stamped T.d.F

Happy Friday all!

Grabbed this Columbus tubing NOT Cinelli-Made (correction) Campagnolo stamped Ciocc locally in a trade. It was spray bombed and decaled as a Cinelli “Supercorsa” by the previous owner. Coincidentally I just happened to sell a Supercorsa (track version) a few weeks ago.

Anyway, my research thus far hints to the frame being mid-to-late 80’s (internal cable routing, Ciocc stamped on only one side of the BB shell instead of both) but I’m still unsure on the exact model. Seat tube accepts a 27.0 but not a 27.2. Edit: Looks like the seat tube was slightly over tightened so its closer on the upper section of the keyhole. It should definitely be able to take a 27.2.

I highly suspect the primered fork belongs to the frame but I cannot ID it. Steertube is stamped T.d.F (Tour De France?) and 58’ and is chromed so Im assuming its chrome under the rattle can primer as well. The gentleman threw in some old Fiamme wheels laced to Campy hubs which may be older than the bike. It also came with a cool 1” threaded Kenesis carbon fork & hideous Stronglight needle bearing headset lol

Any wisdom from the gurus here?

Cheers,

-Giovanni

In the picture the BB shell is stamped/pantographed? Cinelli Made In Italy underneath but it may possibly be that Ciocc made it with a Cinelli BB shell, Columbus tubing and Campagnolo dropouts. Unfortunately I’m far from an expert on these.

I think that’s more likely. Cinelli sold that “spoiler” bottom bracket shell to any number of other bike manufacturers.

Either way, it’s a nice frame. Don’t forget to paint in the Italian colors into that cartouche by the seat tube!

Why the Cinelli stickers..? Owner enamored with that over Ciocc...

Bonifide Ciocc frame there I would think.

Apparently he believed it was a Cinelli Supercorsa due to the BB shell. He admitted he had absolutely no idea about vintage bikes. Even threw in these “Supercorsa” decals

Even fully decalled, there’d be no mistaking that frame for a Supercorsa!

See if you can find what model Ciocc it is and see if you can get appropriate decals.

Definitely, the rattle can job is terrible. Even the rear dropout adjusters/springs were sprayed. She’ll be taken down to bare metal.
Besides, I’m not a huge fan of that Smurf blue. Leaning on black or white although red with all polished parts and tanwalls would look amazing. Not quite sure yet.

Always wondered what a yellow or deep burgundy Ciocc would look like...

I have a yellow (survivor) early 70’s Atala hanging in the garage that I haven’t touched in ages. Deep Burgundy would look incredible with chrome forks.

The Campagnolo Gran Sport/Fiamme wheelset is considerably older than the bike, 1950s I would guess.

Great frame. WTF is going on with that headset?

When you pull the bottom bracket out (and throw it away ) check for any ridges in the base of the seat tube which would indicate SLX tubing.

I can't find any Cioccs with the same features as yours; it looks quite high end with the internal chainstay cable routing. Most Cioccs have 'Ciocc' on the seat stay caps, but your seat stays are mitred. heck, I can't even find a Ciocc with a pump peg!

Not totally convinced that fork is original as I'd expect to see 'Ciocc' on the crown - check if there's any serial numbers.

I'm wondering if it was made by Ciocc for someone else?

Ah! It's a Concorde Aquila made by Ciocc.

No it's not, it's a Ciocc Strada: https://www.thespoken.cc/ciocc-strada

I appreciate your effort with this!
Odd presumably early 90’s headset by Stronglight lol I threw that BB in the trash hours ago lol and Yes I can confirm the ridges on the inner tubbing where the downtube, seat tube & chainstays meet the bb shell.
That Strada is incredible the only difference is it has that special twisted tubing unlike mine.
I did stumble upon one identical to mine (minus forks ofc) but he doesn’t appear to know the exact model since he had it refinished.

i own an"early 1990s" CIOCC that has many similar details and thse were NOT made by Cinelli or any builder that Cinelli employed (AFAIK).
The Cinelli Spoiler BB shell and the seat cluster are exact matches with my CIOCC frame. I think also given the painted over "Flag" braze-on this was built by the "Bonati" factory which owned the CIOCC brand plus Conti plus "John" marques, BITD.
They did good work but not quite the finesse level of Signore Pelizzoli (Mr. Ciocc), never the less I am happy with BOTH my Ciocc bicycles: this later "Bonati" and my original San Cristobal built when Pelizzoli owned his own brand.
I think the OP will be VERY pleased with this SLX (?) frame, but as observed that fork is NOT original

Great insights thank you! Btw the frame was rattle canned sprayed blue by previous owner so The flag isn’t in the traditional Italian colors.

That will be fun to re-make. You might be able to source a Ciocc fork but it might be pricey.

hmmm, does the OP know what size steerer he needs?
I MIGHT have such a fork but if I do (and decide to sell it) yes it will be pricey!
I know what I spent on these!

Let's see if i can find an old pic of mine, not "burgundy" but a deep red metallic, paint by Mr. Ed Litton, and he had these decals on hand. Original color was a plain-jane red.

there have been a few changes since this pic was taken, but tubing is SL, it has internal TT cable routing, Cinelli Spoiler BB with one side panto, same seat cluster as OP's
