Chrome Voyageur 11.8 Never Used!
I've wanted a chrome Voyageur 11.8 for some time now but never found the right one but I was checking out the auctions and there was a nice local one so I took a chance on it and bought it. The ad stated ridden 20 miles but I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it. It looked nice so I bought it. Well it probably wasn't even ridden 20 miles, ever. There was a slight bit of grease on the first 3 cogs in back, and the big chainring has not been used at all. The original Schwinn tires are still new. This bike is as clean as they come. I spoke with the seller afterwards and she said her father bought it in 1982 and never really rode it. He kept it in the house the whole time so that helped preserve it. This has the foam padded handlebars with safety levers which I've seen on some Voyageurs instead of the wrapped bars and no safety levers. I'll be converting it. Other than fresh grease and some waxing, this thing needs nothing. I may replace the seat with a Brooks Swift. I think it would go well on it. Here's some pics.

It was ebay and the seller happened to be near me so it worked out great for me.

That old foam can be quite comfortable with light gloves…great bicycle…just me, but, I’d leave the safety levers and seat as is for a couple of rides…just cuz, I guess…

Well, I hope the original stem is the right length for the OP. I suppose you could get a machine shop to turn a 22.2 stem down to 21.1, but probably not cheaply.

i have a '81 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8. Are you planning to modernize it? ( 700C wheels etc.) My has been rebuilt and modelized and run great..

And NEVER in this pristine condition !!!
This is a GREAT bike, and will last for YEARS !!!!!!
The only thing I noticed was a slight bend in the cable under the top tube.
Will probably work just fine.

I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing to it yet. I bought new bar tape and I have a set of barcons i may install. I might change to a set of Dura Ace aero brake levers I have but that's about it.

That's a great looking bike. I have a blue 76 SLT 12.2 in nice shape but yours looks incredible. I'll do the same things to my Voyageur but may add the barcons. We'll see. More pics of your SLT please.

I was put in touch with a old Schwinn dealer. It had been put away in a safe place. It had never been opened.
