What’s up with Cervelo?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One thing Cervelo did eff up was that they started with a very tight dealer network. After the sale to PON (if that's the name) they exploded into everywhere and went from "can't find a dealer in San Antonio" to "seems like every shop has some", and forced them to take a lot of inventory. Then over the recent years, a number of shops stopped carrying them because of taking losses on that inventory. Now it's sort of stabilized, but yes, a number of shops have a bad taste in their mouth about the business practices.

None of which has anything to do with the bikes, which are, again, fantastic.

It is quite highly likely (read: assured) that I will never own a Trek or a Specialized. Doesn't bother me a bit.
That’s too bad, but understandable in your case. I noticed the LBS here that sells Trek only sells them, and another dealer, only Spesh. They are, IMO, great bikes - I love my Domane. But now I can see why some are against the brand.

It is likely I’ll upgrade the Domane with the new version, or a Spesh. For FL riding, relaxed geometry and long wheelbase is where it’s at for me, even if the bike is a bit heavier.

But Giant, Bianchi, Cervelo, Canyon are still my contenders for VA hilly terrain.

Odd...my LBS sells Cervelo, Trek, Cannondale, Salsa, and Pinarello.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess you either have a decent amount of distance between bike shops, or Trek NA is different in their practices than Trek USA. Our local Trek dealer carries... Trek. The local Spesh dealer carries a handful of brands-- but like I said, they're ~15 miles apart. The next closest Spesh vendor is some 30 miles west. Exclusivity contracts abound in these parts.

Madison County, which borders the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park to the west. I think Stony Man is a bit over 4,000 ft (high for us Easterners)

There are incredibly steep climbs, lots of rolling hills, endless pastoral views and many bike-friendly roads. Easy to lose oneself in the ride.

BUT....the miles are more difficult to come by here than in FL (if you ignore the frequent winds).

I got this frameset (leftover 2018) for under $1700, just got new bars and stem to match and moved my Record 12 groupset over. I have to say that the fit and finish and the glossy/matte paint combo is awesome so count me in as another happy Cervelo owner! And no BB squeak either_ as long as you use the correct Loctite and primer you're good for the life of the frame.

Is anyone else seeing apostrophe's being turned into blocks for some posters? For some strange reason, it's only on this thread for me.

I've seen it at times, but I'm not seeing it now. I think that it has to do with page loading or some such.

I recently got the R5 with all black finish. I previously was riding a vintage steel frame bike so my joints would be sore after 2 consecutive days of riding, but with the Cervelo I can now ride 5 straight days without leg soreness whatsoever.

Here's my other one. The pic is mostly of the kit, since the MIL got it for me for my b-day and was supposed to see me race Chatty 70.3 in it, but since that plan is all blowed up I wore it for a ride with wifey the other day. Mock away.

Well this is awkward- i have that exact same kit as you, although in a short sleeve variant and a separate jersey/tri shorts variant.

Short sleeve? It is - you can sort of see the border on my left/ camera-right arm, exactly at level with the end of the black and white panels. I just basically always wear sun sleeves now, after getting dangerously cooked this time last year.

Edit: roadie version

Ah, I can see the line, now.

Yeah, I wear sun sleeves all the time, too (unless I'm going to be back home before 10am or something). I keep it simple with just white, though.

LOL, this turned into a Jersey thread. (Not NJ where I lived years ago).

I rode the new Domane a few days ago. Not in love with it enough to buy a new one, will keep the old one for now......

So now, I get to pick two bikes from........(drum roll)......Giant Defy, Bianchi Infinito, Cervelo R3 or C series, and Canyon Endurace series.

All are still in the running pending fit and test ride............the other decision....whether to go Di2 or SRAM Red AXS........

And no, I won’t pose with a jersey like the above (sorry), but shameless plug for Cervelo acknowledged.
