Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was finally able to give the new bars a try on the NP. I like them, and 40mm wide is my new go-to. It's easier to find deals on bars that aren't as popular, as well.

I rode my narrow bars today. 39 cm O-O. Were odd numbers more common BITD? C-C looks to be 364mm. Hmm. They're pretty damn tiny whatever they are.

How many handlebars do you go through in an average year?

To add to that.... I have a set from Giant, and a set from Easton. Spending $900.00+ on two set of bars would be considered lunacy, in my book. Spending less than $300? Not nearly as frightful.

If it's posted here, and I like them? As many as I see fit.

Today was supposed to be the 3rd Monthly NorCal C&V Ride, but I was the only one to show up. So I rode anyway, all by my lonesome. It was a nice day for it. I'm still working on the fit on Deadman. Up till today, all my rides on it have been 22 miles or less, but even at that distance little issues appear. The 36 year old, original equipment 'Bernard Hinault' model Turbo saddle may have to go, but after moving it forward 1 cm and bringing it back to level (had tried a degree or so of nose down), as well as making sure everything was pulled up out of the way, it was not so bad. Not sure I'd want to go a long way on it. I'm thinking about replacing that with something more modern with a recess or cutout, and maybe replace the Nitto Olympiade bars with Highway Ones. We'll see.

Here's a shot I took today, the requisite Frenchman's Tower shot:

And a close up, so you can actually see the bike...

Looking at the pic, the saddle looks nose-up a little, but really, it's not. It's the 'wave' shape that makes it look that way. Plus, I tried it a little nose-down as I mentioned, and I kept feeling like I was sliding forward, and that I was being thrown at the bars.

Opted to do a club ride with club #2. 45 miles with 3100 feet of climb. It actually split a few miles out and some did an easier route but even their A group ride is friendly with lots of regroups. Perfect weather, too.

Most of the women took the B route.

I live on the other side of those mountains. It's not as far as it looks.

I wanted to get home because my kitty is sick. I couldn't get him in to his regular vet so I took him to a walk in deal and the vet there was very pessimistic about my guy.

I think my Schwinn originally had 39cm bars.
