velonews: the cyclist with the tattoos on his face
[David Clinger] is best known for his facial tattoos, which he is now in the process of having removed. (must have been cool when he was younger)

i once met a guy (with full face tats) that rode a mtn bike across the US, eating out of dumpsters/being homeless the whole way. at least that was the story... he looked like a rough dude, i believed it.

What a wally. How could that ever look good? Whatever he took, it must have been strong stuff to induce those tendancies.

I read the VN article - He was all the way up to crack addiction at one point not too long ago. The drug addictions happened to coincide with the decision to get the facial tattoo, and those two choices killed his contract.
It says the removal process is going to take months. He goes once a week, and the swelling is so bad after the appointment that he can't ride for a few days.

If memory serves me right.. he did have the tattoos partially removed - only to cover the faded tattoo with an even larger one? :-)
Way to go!

out walking the earth
He did indeed lose a contract with health net. He inked the deal, and then showed up for camp with the facial tattoos. They gave him walking papers.

I think he started having them removed once before then changed his mind. It's situations like this that remind me being overly cautious isn't always a bad thing.

Where did you read the article? All I saw on velonews.com were the pictures. Is the article in the magazine already? What I've heard through the grapevine seems to support what you read.
