In Wyoming, it's considered rude not to wave when you meet the first vehicle in the last 50 miles. I also wave or acknowledge cyclists, get a response about 90% of the time. Some wave first.

I don't shave legs.

Working at a hospital, I’ve been continuously surprised at just how many people are shaving.

I’m not talking about the routine procedure types who might have had a while to trim the brush, I am talking about the unplanned urgent and emergent stuff. Smooth as a bowling ball.

Makes me think it’s not just bike guys shaving. I don’t judge.

I’ll wave if my heart rate is below 140. Above that, I’m far too focused and I can’t be bothered by pleasantries.

I shave and wave all year round.

...but I do NOT wax my chain! 🤪

I never shave when I am waving. Or vice versa - not that coordinated or care.

No winter shaving.
And no waving ever. But I will nod and say hey.

Definitely depends on where you live. We even joke here that when someone doesn't wave that they must be from out of state.

However it also serves a safety purpose IMO. A wave, nod or other acknowledgement at least lets me know the other person sees me and won't suddenly veer into my path. A few people... them out-of-stater's... look to be trying real hard not to make eye contact and stare straight ahead. I'm never certain if they actually noticed I or any other are around.

Have never shaved legs or arms but would possibly reconsider if a serious fall resulted in major discomfort when debriding road rash.
RE: waving, I almost always acknowledge others that I encounter when out for a ride. A wave, nod or simple verbal pleasantries are just socially appropriate things to do.

Too late.

For sure! Here if somebody doesn't wave back, or proceeds to sit on your back wheel without saying hello, they're from out of state!
