Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's good you made it back. I'm not particularly superstitious, but I did have a very ****** Friday the 13th, way back when. For some reason, if I don't have to work on that date, I'm always a little happier.

Why not? I like our chances to score more (14) than anyone else has against them. Does that count?

My left thumb and wrist are forever compromised.

The morning before the incident I asked on Facebook “What could possibly go wrong?”

Well it's all a moot point now, since I picked the Mountaineers.

A tradition has been passed on to the next generation. The Younger Boy and his videogame/D&D pals are having a Thanksgiving potluck, and he volunteered to bring stuffing. So I gave him a copy of the recipe my Dad dictated to me over the phone 35 years ago, which I have been using all this time, and he made that, with a little guidance from me. He made enough of it to leave a small pan of it for us, so we'd let him back into the house.

Dad would be proud.

So I think the cause of my leg pain is the actual aircraft it’s self and might not be bike related at all.

First the 737 is extremely cramped, and if I adjust the rudder pedals for practical use my legs are in a constant bend. If I don’t keep my feet on the Pedals, then right where I would put my feet on the floor, it’s elevated at an angle so my leg is bent at the knee but it’s putting pressure on my knee.

We took a break today and trying to get out of the seat the pain was immediate and it hurt a lot, it was in the exact same place I felt when I rode yesterday. I tried to find a solution but I don’t have really any options. The second have of the sim my captain was flying and I knew I wouldn’t be touching the controls at all so I slid my seat back to keep my leg straight.

I did a light load ride tonight. First 5 miles there was no pain and then it started to build. I stopped and raised the stem, seemed like it helped but again after about 3 miles the pain started but not as strong. I slid the seat aft about 1.5 mm and tried again, similiar result.

I found if I focused on keeping my leg in a certain position it wouldn’t bother me at all, and that seemed to work well so I joined C pace. No pain until there was pain, I tried to focus on leg placement but it didn’t seem to matter, I stopped when I realized my right leg was doing almost all the work.

Can you adjust your cleat position on the aircraft? One of my cycling friends is a pilot with lots of experience, I could ask him.

5 of us started at 8:00 and did most of the climbing first to get it done before it got hot. It was really beautiful climbing and we could see the oil tankers in the Santa Monica bay many miles away. We topped out at 4k feet with a few miles of steeps.
My friend on the e-bike dropped back to climb the steep section with me and I noticed how quiet it was when he stopped pedaling for a couple seconds. I made the sound of his motor with my voice so he switched it off to make me happy and climbed without assist for a minute or so. When he switched it back on he said he could leave it off but he would probably have a heart attack and I would have to get him to a hospital. I told him to leave the motor on.

The rudder pedals move forward or back, the seat moves up or down front and back, I’ll play with it tomorrow but I have yet been able to figure out how to keep my legs straight and still access the rudder pedals.

Part of the problem is the instrument panel sits way in front of the rudder pedals and the bottom of it is low, so I can’t raise my seat to high or my legs would be semi blocked.

Mission accomplished. Could have happened in the second quarter. Otherwise, a long way to go.
