also a casual long beach flatitudes sesh after destroying the knees in the various heights earlier in the day.
actually went over to investigate the new gerald desmond bridge between terminal island and long beach.
oodles of construction workers on the lower stretches/entry/exit ramps. as far as i can tell, the bike path (on the ocean side)
is done on the main span. south entrance/exit was shut down-hard. right now, looks like the most-oft used access point will be taking
ocean blvd from extreme nw long beach (by the 710 fwy), riding over the freeway (pedestrians prohibited signs afoot but none
prohibiting bicycles) and taking your first exit to the right (just before interfacing with the serious bridge traffic) onto pico. down the
pico ramp and there is an immediate "sidewalk styled" two-way bike lane to the left. heads about two hundred yards and then another left
leads to the entry exit on the south end of the bridge. it's a real stretch to hit from anaheim st. along with multiple train track crossings
but if you must...

when it opens, it'll be a helluva view. did not see a bicycles prohibited sign in the area past the pico offramp from ocean blvd northbound but
it's possible i missed it. you do not want to continue past the pico offramp...even with an e-bike. hopefully, it opens by summertime. novelty?

unfortunately, think we missed each other. was looking out for you tho. came across three guys riding up le flore, one guy that was about .25 miles ahead
of me ascending old fullerton before i went up skyline and he hit east or stayed on fullerton, and one guy in a dark jersey descending subtropic.
only saw 5 cyclists in 45 miles. did see about 15 hikers/walkers on the schabarum trail between the paved end of east skyline and punta del este.
was on my way back to the base of brea canyon via whittier blvd by 11:30am.

it was bleeping cold at the start at the base of brea canyon but the lhh area had great views and low wind today. almost perfect. was trying to make it all the way
over to turnbull/descending but wimped out.

super low traffic in the lhh area as usual on the weekdays except for fullerton/harbor and hacienda. yes, i indulged both briefly. do like me some hacienda switchback descent heading sw.
magical if you can time/run (careful!) that skyline/leucadia light and have the descent to yourself.

Hit the crosswalk button and the light will stay red long enough to get a jump on the downhill run.

Finally felt well enough to stretch a little and completed a looping metric century using Turnbull Cyn, SGRT, skirting Sierra Madre-Foothill, then back south via San Dimas Ave, Grand Ave, Lemon, Brea Cyn, Pathfinder and Sunrise/Salerosa.

Noticed several tandem riders above Santa Fe Dam. Got buzzed by a peloton of about 30 riding three abreast (double paceline?) on the SGRT. I find this to be a bullying tactic for other riders. Yelling for other riders to move to the side in the opposite direction as they cross over into the opposing lane. Complete BS! Then four motorcyclists were also on the SGRT. WTH!?! I was glad to exit SGRT and get on Sierra Madre.

LARIO Park is still closed.

Now I know why I like riding in the Puente Hills so much. Less BS and more enjoyment.

Pan-flat ride to the Queen Mary & back on Sat. to warm up for the foray into the D-Bar & Chino Hills today. Up Brea Cyn Road to D Bar Blvd-Grand Ave-Chino Hills Pkwy. My plan was to head up Eucalyptus then south on Canon back to Carbon Cyn Road. Got to the top of the hill only to discover Canon is a gated, private road. Rats! Oh well the cruise back down was fun. Hardly saw any cyclists out only a handful on CC Road.
For the record the switchbacks on CC Road are much more enjoyable going downhill.

You can make a loop out of Eucalyptus by making a right onto Rancho Hills Drive instead of the left onto Canon. Takes you back to Chino Hills Pkwy.

42 miles and 4650 ft/climb in La Habra Hgts.
Took TGT1's and Ooga's advice on the corner of Skyline and Hacienda Rd and pressed the crosswalk button to stop traffic.
Hauled azz down the swervy switchbacks and I admit it was a rush trying to beat the traffic down to Hacienda Park.
Great day for a ride 65-75F, breezy and could make out the Isthmus and PVP.

TGT1's advice prob better. i just ran the light after trackstanding for 3-4 seconds. if you're in the wrong gear tho...
that sw descent down to any choice of: east, west, encanada, reposado or canada sombre (illegal left turn!) is a blast.
definite rush knowing stuff is headed your direction and heavy and soon. gets them legs pumping instead of coasting.

Sunday, I rode with friends and we did about 18 miles through Chino Hills State Park. Beautiful day in the high 70 temps, with a nice cool breeze. Air was fresh (rained the night before) and the trails were slightly damp, but not muddy so dust was at a minimum. If my friends didn't bonk (I even offered them pickle juice), I could have rode the entire park non-stop...well stopping for photo ops at least!

First dirt ride since I based my face in on this same ride. My face has recovered, but my left thumb is still a bit sore from a ligament strain. I've been riding the road on Sunday mornings, but that's the only riding I've been getting. This was a nice change of scenery, especially on such a beautiful day.

I too am intrigued by gravel riding when I saw a couple of fast dudes flying down the Mountains to the Sea Trail (similar terrain to your photo but more rocks) southbound in Peters Canyon Regional Park at a speed that seemingly rivaled mine on paved road. But I am so lazy about washing my bike.

Is pickle juice some sort of anti-bonk elixir?

I'm pretty OCD after every ride. I hose my bike, wipe it down and check to make sure everything is running smoothly. Off-roading on a gravel bike does put more stress on a rigid frame than strictly road riding. Though my friend has been riding his Giant TCR road bike with us on 28c slicks, since his gravel bike is still being built! I'm geared adequately for climbing using Shimano GRX with a 2x 46/30t crank and 11-36t cassette. I can climb all but the most steepest inclines. Though speed is what I really enjoy about gravel. I can take downhill dirt quite fast and many of the trails exit out some steep paved roads where you can pick up the pace while tucked in the drops.

PIckle juice helps nullifies muscle cramping immediately, though it should be used as a last resort to get you back to your car or back home!

It was a hot one today. I did about 20 miles on my weekly Griffith Park hill climb, but towards the end I needed a cool drink, so I stopped at Starbucks for an iced latte!

Custom build. I bought the frameset only. It's running a full GRX 400/600 2x 10 speed groupset with hydraulic brakes. Besides the frame/fork, the only thing stock is the seat post clamp and headset bearings. Originally I was thinking of going with a carbon frame build, but the price of this frame was way reasonable at $299 and actually quite easy to work on (flat mount, wide tire clearance, threaded BB, easy access internal cable routing).

48 miles and 4550 feet of climb into Carbon Canyon and Chino Hills.
Legs were dead after a hike the day before and a couple days of landscaping but good conditioning nonetheless.

Traversed Carbon Canyon west to east with the payoff being the switchbacks.
Most riders, at least today, were going east to west on Carbon Canyon.

Climbed Eucalyptus and stared into Soquel Canyon. Looks rideable but I do not know if Tonner Canyon can be accessed/linked this way via Soquel? And if it can, would you be able to exit Tonner Canyon off of Brea Canyon Rd?

Back through Diamond Bar and Rowland Heights along Grand, Diamond Bar Blvd, and Pathfinder respectively, with a pitstop at Pantera Park, and mostly downhill before climbing Sunrise/Salerosa.

I tried once last summer to ride Tonner Cyn there is a manned guard shack around the curve at the south end of Brea Cyn Road. The guard told me no access it's private. As you ride by on Grand between D Bar Blvd and Chino Hills Pkwy there is a locked gate with No Tresspass & Private Road etc. signs on it. Looks inviting as it wanders off into the hills though.

That area is Tres Hermanos Ranch. I grew up in Chino Hills and didn't learn much about it until recently after seeing someone tag the area in an Instagram post.

43-miler from the metro san diego area down to coronado and up the silver strand. ferry back across san diego bay and a bit of toodling afterwards.

upper 60's. some new pavement. a few beers and no food but some would argue they are one and the same.

not a lot of riding lately. work has been a bear. should have most of july off so mentally preparing to ride 65 miles a day every day then.

I squeezed in a nice flat 47 miles today, before the big heatwave will pass thru over the coming days.
Not quite as level as your ride, ooga-booga, as mine tallied about 1,400 feet of elevation gain.
Roughly half my route covered dedicated bike trails along concrete rivers passing through Irwindale, Pico Rivera, and El Monte.
I saw Tinker Juarez for the second straight ride. Good thing we rode in opposite directions, because he would've dropped me. The dude is fast!
Today's ride puts me over 1,500 miles so far this year. I don't plan to hit 6,000 - my successful target the past five years.
