DA 7800 cranks and 130 BCD chainrings
Just getting into gears and wondering if I could use any 130BCD chainring on DA 7800 2x cranks? Also got some Tiagra 4700 shifters... will the DA 7800 cranks work with the 4700 FD? Current 1x set up - Tiagra 4700 RD, shifters, 5700 cassette, Sugino Messenger cranks with a Raceface chainring on a road frame from the early 2000s and want more gears.
Thinking of getting some 7800 cranks and wondering on chainring options.

In principle, any 130mm BCD ring will work with any 130mm BCD crank, but with indexed front shifting you may have ramps, pins, and such like to deal with to make it work well.

Pretty much any 130 bcd 53/39 or whatever chainrings will physically fit on the crank, only 7800 rings will match and look correct. Shifting performance should be fine.

Ended up getting the SRAM Apex 2x 10 speed. Brand new pretty much the same price as used 7800s. BB included and chainring sizes close to what I'm looking for.

Sellers of used bikes and NOS and used bike component frequently seem to be relying on the old phrase usually attributed to PT Barnum. "There's a sucker born every minute.”

Are we talking about 5-bolt crank arms? Not sure what BCD is used on current Shimano proprietary 4-bolt arms. Although I'm sure that many people here can educate me.

It is a 110bcd variant but a proprietary 4 arm version. However in the case of these there are plenty of aftermarket options. I don't know if things have changed on the newest of Shimano, I think for MTB stuff it is the direct mount model like SRAM, Race Face... have done.

Don't know what you two are talking about but the OP originally ask about a Shimano FC-7800 crankset. That's from way back in 2004 and is a five arm spider with a 130 BCD.

The OP very specifically asked about Shimano 7800. 130 BCD Shimano 7800. If it's 7800 it has to be 5 arm. Only takes about .27 seconds to figure this out if you don't already know. /education.

I wanted my wife to have a chance to get uphill on her classic Ironman. The smallest rings I could find without replacing the crank were 50/38. Anything larger than that is pretty easy to find.
80’s downtube shifting, so yeah, it shifts perfectly.
