Curious to know where (and how) you bought your folder?
A wee bit amazed that theTern handled the Waitakere hills.

1)TradeMe, secondhand (for those outside NZ, it’s like eBay but worse). Just keep a search going there and see what you can find. There are some sellers there who sell Terns new too. You can find quite a few Tern dealers around the motu, but they seem to be in it for the ebikes and aren’t always so useful for the folding bikes.
2) The hills were dealt with through changing the stock derailleur, cassette and shifter to Microshift Advent, which for not a lot of money gave me a wider range of gears. Have a search for my posts on this upgrade if you’re interested.

Most people guess that they contain fishing gear, but those are kite bags.

Not quite in the wild - here is a very early folding bike from the WW2 which I saw on my visit today to the Coventry Transport Museum. Well worth visiting if you are in Coventry (England). This museum tells how the local engineering firms first developed sewing machines, then bikes, then motobikes and of course cars and other vehicles. The bike story is huge and so I would highly recommend a visit for all bike fans!

Outside the main building in the centre of Coventry.

WW2 folding bike - could be used with a parachute. Thanks @rickpaulos

WW2, not 1. No paratroupers in WWI. The bike on the right was made by BSA (Birmingham Small Arms company). They made some 50,000 to 60,000 of them from 1942 to 1945. Plenty still around and available. Not very good riding bikes. The right "pedal" was a shaft that slid through the crank arms so it wouldn't stick out when folded. You would want a heal on your boots to keep your foot on the shaft. Some owners have tapped the crank arm for a regular pedal.

I can also recommend the bicycle collection at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.

A nice collection of early machines, including this unlabeled (when I was there in '19) early recumbent mounted up under the rafters in the main hall.

A much larger collection of cycles is at the Glasgow Transportation Museum, with some of the bikes mounted on a Möbius strip hung from the ceiling. Here, an early Moulton F frame and a rare Bickerton Country:

Glasgow also displays the world's oldest extant bicycle

Amazing, very cool, but if it's all the same, I think I'll stick with my Curl!

Yep. But there were plenty of folding bikes in the era of the Great War to End All Wars. The Dursley-Pedersen and Baden-Powel folding bikes served in the Boer War. The BSA Folding General Service was developed especially for use in WWI as was the Phillips Folding General Service. The French Peugeot Bicyclette Pliante dates to 1896 and was probably the world's first successful production folding bike. It became known as the Capitaine Gérard bike and saw service in WWI. The Italians fielded the Bianchi Modello Militare Brevettato folder.

Thanks for pointing this out. I remembered that I also saw a significant collection in Glasgow, but I could not pin down where. After all, it is Glasgow that is known as a hub of technological innovation, not Edinburgh.

Ooh I like that bottle holder? I just added a front rack to my Liberte

I used the new Zizzo Bromptom style mount

A two-person tent

An old camera bag slides perfectly on the vertical part of the rack. I used it to pick up Italian roasted coffee beans and mozzarella balls the other day.

And now I can't quite believe that I own a second folder...

Last fall, I took Amtrak from Rochester NY to Utica NY, where I met my son. We both took our Twentys. Transferred to the Adirondack RR to Thendara NY. Got off the train and went for a 20 mile ride, then reversed the train rides.

These Kenda Small Block Eights came on the bike when I bought it NOS earlier this year. Whether they are factory or changed out by Dahon before they sold it to me, I couldn't tell you. I haven't tried them for any hardcore MTBing yet, and probably shouldn't, but they're actually quite good on soft sand and fine gravel.
