Late 80s Schwinn Paramount
I'm curious what a fair price is for a late 80s Schwinn Paramount. This one has a black frame with SLX tubing and a Suntour Sprint groupset. Appears to be a 12 speed. I don't see them for sale very often and usually they are not my size. But they also usually seem to be Dura Ace or Campy. I think it is probably pretty good condition, but haven't gone to see it yet. So a range from rough shape to great shape would be nice. Also if you have an opinion on how great a bike it would be I'd like to hear. I drool over the 70s Paramounts, but this one in black isn't inspiring as much as I would have expected.

Rough shape: $100. Go up from there. Pristine $750, although usually local sales are less. Group is a step down as you mentioned. Myself, I would just value it at the frameset.

thanks. I guess decent shape for its age is in the $400-500 sort of range?

With the SLX tubing and sprint shifters it's a bit of a hodepodge mix for a Paramount different years different levels. If in average good working condition with nice wheels say $400 but try for $300. I just can't see going much higher.

If you don't have such a group in hand, it can get really expensive really quickly. I almost bought a 8 speed 7400 donor bike, it was $400, and it didn't have DA wheels. The donor bike had a nice frame that would have offset quite a bit of the cost. In the end, stripping a bike I already have made more sense.

Not unless buyer has a complete DA group or Campy group to l. I recently picked up something similar (most would say better) and it had a mess of components. I will be stripping one of my bikes, full DA 7400 8 speed, and rebuilding it.
If you don't have such a group in hand, it can get really expensive really quickly. I almost bought a 8 speed 7400 donor bike, it was $400, and it didn't have DA wheels. My limited Paramount expertise tells me this is a Waterford Paramount which hold their value quite well. Clean, Dura Ace STI bike should fetch $700-$900 range IMO. I’ll deduct $250 for the lesser groupset.
