FOUND: WTB: Suntour Superbe derailluers and shifters
Anyone holding any? I'm spoiled by all my other Superbe equipped bikes so I want to upgrade the drivetrain on the Peugeot.
The frame is freshly powdercoated so I'm look for parts in excellent shape. Just thought I'd ask her before I start hunting on Ebay.
Thanks!
They'll be going on this.
Current stuff on it works but is nowhere near as precise as my other Superbe setups.

Is it a braze-on front? If so, I somehow have extra orphan FDs

Oh, good point, No braze-on with this bike.
So endless band or other clamp on would be the cleanest although I could also use an adapter if needed. I really like the endless band like on two of the other bikes because it's unobtrusive.

Friction or Accushift indexed? How many cogs in the rear? Double or triple crank? Cassette or freewheel rear hub? Down tube shift levers or bar end/paddle shifters? A lot of ways to custom configure your SunTour parts group and some mixing/matching with XC Pro/XC 9000/Sprint/Cyclone/Radius, etc can sometimes be just as good as Superbe or Superbe pro and often more versatile. For example, XC Pro rear derailleurs work with triple cranks and also freewheels or cassettes with larger than 26 tooth low cog.

LOL, obviously I'm more of a shoot from the hip kind of guy. DT friction shifters, capability to cover an 8 speed Shimano/SRAM cassette and sticking with the double crank on there. I'd like to be able to cover a 28t large cog but I know from experience that most RD's cover more than stated but it comes down to each bike. Want to stick with Superbe level items. I'm a Superbe snob.
In my mind if anyone's holding it's up to me to figure out if it meets my needs.

There seems to have been a recent price spike on Superbe stuff (and Sprint stuff too).
Some reasonably priced stuff...

The NOS set up in the previous post fits more with your bikes' presentation.

Jim,
If you can relax your standards and deign to use Cyclone, I've got a pair for you. I wouldn't mind continuing to stockpile it, but it's been in the parts bins a long time without getting built up, so...

Yeah, I already had that and a few others on my watch list. Just trying here and the other usual places first as I'd rather spread the money around our little "bike nuts" community when I can.

Did you check out the road rash on the RD? Hardly NOS!!!
One other thing, going back to the Suntour V RDs of the early 70's, most Suntour short cage derailleurs were limited to 24T large rear sprockets. Sometime in the 80's they changed to 26T. From my experience, unlike Campy and Shimano, when Suntour said Maximum sprocket size, that was it!
My 1985 Raleigh SBDU Team Pro was a former team bike raced in the northwest. It had been resprayed by Raleigh USA in 1992 kit. It has a Suntour Superbe Pro gruppo. The original RD was COMPLETELY worn out but still index shifted well. I replaced it with a NOS Superbe Pro RD and it's the smoothest index shifting rig that I own.
I'm using this RD with a 13-26T 7 speed Suntour FW. I tried a 28T but no go.

Are you using an accushift freewheel with it?

Fair enough. Let me know if you want the "non-excellent" front derailleur up there (I joke...it looks a bit rough for your needs)

In fairness the seller did state it was installed on a bike, mechanic knocked it over and damaged it so the parts were removed.

Interesting. I could've sworn someone posted that they were able to get 28 or 30 T out of it. Maybe with half step gearing...but if it won't open up wide enough it would likely hit the largest cog, right? So wrap wouldn't be the issue. I haven't used the indexed version though.
The 39-11 doesn't work but 52-30 does.

Far and away more expensive than I would pay (even if all boxed NIB).
I am actually amazed at the Superbe price spike that happened over the last 6 months since I bought a few items.
Have you ever ridden with Sprint stuff?

verktyg already covered this model seems to max out at 26t, but I have this one with no foreseeable use. It came to me with a pair of command shifters I have a plan for.
it would be easy to persuade me to part with it if it suits your needs.
Suntour Superbe Pro RD, rash on bottom of rear pivot, anodizing worn at the top.
Some wear at the upper pivot
Suntour at the time this RD was made was promoting their compact drivetrain, MicroDrive. The idea is that you save weight by shrinking the chainrings and the cogs so that the ratios are the same, but the system as a whole is smaller and lighter.
I have a 7 speed accushift microdrive cassette sitting with a MD XC Comp hub to resell one day, but if you're going to index with accushift and you have the hubs, maybe you don't miss a gear?

It's an odd ad copy. Mentions the blemish, but then mentions NOS again. Oh well.

I've been pricing out the parts and the price for the scraped NOS stuff doesn't seem all that bad compared to getting the stuff piece by piece.
I have had and used all sorts of Suntour parts. Can't complain about any of them that I had but the Superbe parts just feel better to me from the minute i first fondle the DT shifter....
I've got a couple of local bikes I may go look at that have the parts I need. Of course....that's how I wound up with the Bianchi I'm now refurbishing instead of parting out.

Yeah I'm surprised too by the prices I'm seeing. About a year ago I had someone over on Paceline give me Superbe RD/FD/Brakes/Levers/shifters. He offered them for free over there and no one spoke up for about a week before I replied. Put them on my Team USA bike. Makes me appreciate his kind gesture even more.

My inventory list shows I have 3 RDs, 2 FDs and 3 shifters, all Superbe. Finding time to dig them up is a challenge. Can't leave a BF member hanging though so I'll do my best to put hands on them this weekend.
