I wanted to ride it before a major teardown so over the last few days I have checked over everything for safety. Adjusted all the cables. Lubed every point on the derailleurs. Lubed the chain. Installed a proper Brooks saddle. Swapped the wheelset to spares I had with good tires as the sewups are shot. I rode it around the block a couple times and it rode flawlessly, shifted and stopped well. Today I decided to give it a thorough test ride. 26 miles latter, it's a great bike, very impressed. In going over everything it seems to be all original as far as I can tell from literature online, possibly the original tires, not sure and wouldn't bet on it. Seems like it was not ridden much and put away and forgotten. There is no rust on it so it must have been stored well as it came from Indiana.

The info I have read online states they had Simplex Criterium groupsets. Mine has that but with a "Super Competition" front derailleur. Is that original or a replacement?

Still not sold on the blue but after a teardown I will buff and polish it then see what it looks like.

This is the Super Competition" front D/R

My 1972 has the same front derailleur. Bikeboompeugeot.com shows it on the 1974 PX10's also.
Your bike looks great, but I hear you - white is the classic color!

I might be in the minority here but I have never really liked the white ones. And I was around (though young) when they were racing them in the 60s and 70s. The blue looks amazing.....

I would happily take either color, or silver-gray-pearl, like my 1980 PKN-10. I like my Bianchi in "charcoal," even though the Celeste ones are, of course, classic.

Its all torn down to refurbish everything. Washed buffed and polished the frame. There are lots of chips under that dirt that weren't so noticeable before. It is shiny now. Looks new from a few feet away. I'll have to find some touchup paint for it.

Frames seem to look their worst in an unbuilt state. I’ve always thought that as soon as you rebuild them much of that patina blends in again and you don’t see the blemishes as much.

High end Peugeots didn't have the most perfect fit and finish when new, its all part of thier charm. I find the solid paint is far more durable that metalic and pearl colors used on later models.

I've never seen one that color before.
Thanks for posting it.

The original front mech could well have cracked (they all do that, sir) and the SC is a replacement. They crack too.

If blue isn’t your thing, I know a guy who fits large French frames and is missing a PX10 with nervex lugs from his French collection...
