Thanks for all the fish

It's been awesome to debate with all of you in the past 15 or whatever it's been years. I've loved having our own little corner of the internet to discuss things - I'd always come to BikeForums first whenever there was breaking news, and I'd always appreciate talking things through with entertaining people who I respect, even when I disagree with them.

Maybe if we get energetic we can take our discussions elsewhere. I have to say I hate facebook but I'd be OK with ****** or somewhere else.

TBH, Fakebroke and most social media blow chunks. The only reason I'm on FB is for real life local friends and a very few long distance friends. I've even blocked most family who went off the deep end.

FB is not more civil by any means. If anything people feel emboldened to misbehave even under their real names because there are zero consequences for bad behavior. Meanwhile, Suckerborg's AI bots are going crazy, warning, suspending and banning people for stuff they posted years ago, including movie clips from gifs supplied by FB itself. I was suspended temporarily recently for posting a gif from Pulp Fiction through Facebook's own gif link. FB AI bots decided the scene of Butch and Marsellus in the basement with the gimp was porn. So I covered up their faces with clown heads and FB decided it was okey-dokey.

I was a mod on various discussion forums for about a decade and finally gave that up a few years ago.

TBH, the most civil places I've found for chit chat were old school chat rooms, mostly using aliases and proxies to protect people's privacy. Seems like that would have invited incivility but it wasn't bad.

After decades online, from the old school BBSs of the 1980s until now, I've decided that anything other than total anonymity online is BS.

Nothing tops real life meatspace face to face sessions with friends. Even some folks I know who behave badly online are fine in person.

I've enjoyed talking to many on this list, including those I disagree with. If you find a good place, preferable not Facebook 🙂, keep me in the loop. Red edit would be fine. Also, nobody hesitate to drop a line.

Maddmaxx got banned, for what it's worth, I assume it means he won't see this? Maybe someone knows how to reach him.

Same here, allthoug I doubt that's mutual for everybody on the list.

I'm afraid I'm not OK with facebook, never been, never will be. I didn't follow the future of P&R discussion that much because I didn't take it seriously, but I understood is the issue was with the workload on the moderation staff. But I subsequently found out Trollheid is hardly moderated, so couldn't we just simply have P&R discussions in Trollheim? I'm not sensitive at all myself, political discussions aren't moderated for my sake, but I imagine that's different for others.

Wouldn't he get an email alert if you PM him? I've never been banned, no idea how those things work.

Me, (thanks for the inclusion) I'll miss P&R... which to me was about going to a local pub and chatting with familiar folks who may or may not share your opinions. I honestly do not go to pubs where everyone thinks alike... boring.

But I always knew P&R and in fact "The Lounge" were an addendum to BIKE FORUMS... and it was the bike aspect that brought me here in the first place. I tended to linger in the areas that most effected me... Commuting and A&S.... but after a number of years, I realized that the same "chain oil" threads came up over and over again as new riders came on... so I looked around and found the lounge... and P&R, and other lively discussions.

No, I won't be going to FB either... and I will miss P&R... I have my towel... and I'll be around somewhere, on BF.

What's to say the discussion just can't move to Foo? It doesn't seem like the rules of Foo preclude some talk of politics, but I've never hung out here so maybe there are some unwritten rules for that. (honestly, it was the chatting in p&r that was more fun, anyway). I will miss it. There are quite a few members I will miss and the discussion, even when heated, was engaging.

btw, I'm a little upset I wasn't included in ElJamoquio's list...I felt I was an integral part of P&R and the place would have devolved to monosyllabic ramblings without me.

Lol. just kidding. I wonder if Anthony got the vaccine yet.

Throw everybody in a mosh pit with Lamb Of God blasting over the speakers and whoever is left standing is the winner I won’t win because I’m not getting into a mosh pit anytime soon. I will listen to aggressive music from the safety of my garage or in the seated section at a concert.

Well, it can... as long as it does not involve politics or religion... Part of the issue is that apparently some thread titles are visible on the net, in google searches... and P&R stuff was not (I think). Certain subjects tend to bring in certain "clientele," so it those subjects are just not allowed in FOO.

But we can talk Beer and BBQ all day long... however, avoid sauce and chain oil threads.

Give facebook a 1-star rating in the app store. Big movement to get them removed due to bad ratings.

We could practice our diversity and use the African forum. Nice little forum, Africa is.

I went back to check it out and found this old thing.

When I look at it from 30kí and realize itís all a racket... I stay out.

Also realized itís totally antithetical to the serenity prayer, fwiw.

Put another way... Itís like a macro version of Jerry Springer. ďSorry partisans, I donít want to be in your party. Sorry partisans, whoever your hoping to win has zero concern for your quality of life.Ē
