Is this a common issue. I like the feel of the mechelin 4s, but the sidewalls melted. Im under the impression that it happens because of long term storage, Ive had 2 sets, 1 was a replacement of the first set, and second one I got a refund. They melted within 4 weeks of fitting.

stored inside, only would have had detergent on them. Removed from bike when degreasing and lubing.

any suggestions or simulat experiences?

Been there.

I blamed storing the bike near a refrigerator (ozone).

They had a bad batch a while back. About a year ago, I can't remember exactly, but I know we returned three or four tires to our vendor. One of the tires we returned felt like melted rubber, really sticky, and the tread separated from the sidewall in only one ride.

It seems pretty wide spread. I spoke to manufacturer, but they stopped replying and I got not real info :/

yes this is well know for the Mich Pro 4. Never buying Mich again

I worked in a Schwinn shop when I was going to college. We got a bad batch of the low end model Schwinn tire for the 27" bicycles. Some of the finished repairs bicycles started going boom and of course some customers were bringing them back with blow outs. The owner had us mount some of the tires on some rims and hang them in the back. He got a good laugh observing the reaction of his employees as the loud noise would startle some of us.

Like others on various forums, I had to trash my pro 4 Service Course tires because the (colored) sidewalls essentially melted, starting even before installation. The resulting sticky blue goo was then hard to get off the rim. Very annoying!. They were admittedly 2 ys old but unused. THe experience with the pro 4s has put me off Michelin altogether, even though the problem can hardly apply to all their tires..

I think that the ozone thing is pure BS. Theoretically....maybe. But real life? No.

The problem that I had with Michelins was that they were just so damn hard to put on. Great car tires, crappy bike tires.

they are no different in effort with car tires. The tire machine struggles more than it should.

I used one pair of 559 Michelin Wild Run ‘r tires. They were good and no trouble to mount. Best of all, they didn’t melt!
