got a little overheated and was contemplating turning around and heading along the ca hwy 78 corridor to the coast
to beat the heat. the high thin clouds moved in and cut the temp by 5-7 degrees and the (mostly) flats and descent
in plenty of shade along woods valley rd aided in recovering. had a blast on the couser canyon descent
(it's been a while) there was some back end suffering tho. was bonking or close to it on the southbound of the 395 parallel
to the 15 fwy from deer park winery/welk resort entrance up to the mountain meadow/deer springs/offramps. that stretch
is interminable on a good day but it seriously felt like I was going backwards. bleep pavement through there didn't help the mood.
Awesome to fight off those escape or easy way out temptations.
I stayed at the Welks resort one week many years ago, and was always thinking how difficult it would be to climb the hills around that area.

Cool. A bike is a good choice to get around the old propeller factory. I have always known people who work at JPL. My father worked on both Voyager projects, Galileo, and the Hubble wide-field camera. A good friend is one of the supervisors for the team that built the Mars Rovers. There are a bunch of others, too.

One of my common MTB routes takes me across the Hahamonga basin. I drop down into the dirt through the fence just outside of the east gate, and follow the trail that runs next to the parking structure towards the park on the west side of the basin.

15mi/1600' hot, dirty, singlespeedin' on my typical route to Cherry Canyon. No hurry. Took it as easy as possible on the climb, and enjoyed the smooth and groovy singletrack descent. Feeling pretty good.

I love this old beat-up bike...

Anyone riding Critical Mass LA tonight? It'll be an 18-20 mile bike mob ride around LA starting in Koreatown, there's even a pace car!

Another beautiful sunrise this time not a cloud in sight. Santiago Cyn was packed with cyclists must've seen at least SIX!! A few little telltale nippy air pockets early on signaling Fall is around the corner! Turned up Marguerite then a long curvy downhill on Los Alisos to Trabuco then wound my way back home. Made it home just before the thermometer hit the nitrous button.

I'm working at JPL but I never brought my bike to work... I'll need to start to bike to work when we get back to the office. It's 25 miles one way for me.

there are some decent grades and punchy moments in the immediate area of the 15 fwy corridor from escondido
on the south end up to the border patrol checkpoint to the north.

nearby de luz area is a little harder, more compact and with less support and, consequently, can be tough to do
more than a 40-miler in there. a bit easier to do more than 40 miles incorporating both sides of the 15 fwy and
mixing in the climbs and some flats.

entire 15 fwy corridor (5 miles west < > east of the freeway) from escondido north to ca hwy 74 highly underrated roadie territory tho.

Nice, much like my old school GT hard tail that I use on some of the local trails around Temecula. Had some nice times the last few weeks on this classic.

The two times I worked for JPL, I was commuting from OC so lots of traffic and commute time.

The bike saved me time getting around the campus and then doing a ride in the local Angelos Crest trails since I was in no hurry to make the daily commute back to OC.

One day I just blew off work and did a hike upto Mt Wilson from Pasadena.

Your profile says you live in La Canada. If your commute is 25 miles to JPL, I think you might be a able to find a shorter route - LOL

I've clocked in almost 75 miles this week, with lots of hill climbing and sprinting back home (so I can pick my kids up from school). I would ride longer, but with a family and small kids I really need to maximize my ride time. I've also been lifting weights almost daily, but it's affecting my recovery times between riding and strength training. I need to adjust my program a bit. I read heavier weight sets and less reps are better for cycling and I need to allow for proper recovery. My weekly group rides and trying to hang with the faster riders forces me to ride at a higher pace, especially when reaching those checkpoints. I find myself dropping into the small front ring less, unless I'm on an impossibly steep incline or on a dirt trail. I'm already thinking about building out another bike just for group riding!

You like climbing so consider taking the SART to Green River and then climb it to the new foothill connector.

Its approx 3 miles up Green River and then another 1..2 up the new foothill connector to about skyline dr where you can do another slight climb approx 1 mile to the dirt fire roads that snake up about another 10 miles. Green River and Foothill have some parts that approx 10% +/-

The mtn and gravel bike riders love that 10 mile climb on mostly smooth dirt. I did it a few times on an older hard tail but needed a few breaks to catch my breath

Just for kicks and giggles I mapped a loop route into Skyline and coming out of Black Star Cyn.
Note: Green River Rd maxes out at 25% but it does not last long.

Looks like a possibility with my 29er when I heal up.

Rolled out on my Storck road bike this morning to join the Sunday group ride I frequently do. 4 miles from home, I hit something that tore open the sidewall of my rear tire (tubeless), and it went flat. I was prepared to drop a tube in it, and go on with my ride, but could not get the tubeless stem nut to budge. I was stuck. My only choice was to call an Uber.

When I got home, I hopped on my my MTB and did a dirty qickie (Brown Saddle-Millard Canyon) - 9mi / 1600'.

looks like a fun 12+ mile stretch of dirt and generally challenging route. probably a little too steep and rocky in places for a guy
rocking '23's.

was wondering about that. have taken a few lyfts but never with a bike. was there a comments area or specific size vehicle you could request
to ensure that your driver could/would accommodate a bike with uber?

Would be nice on a gravel bike and can even add some chino hills park dirt trails for more offroad.
Yes some short steeps that can be powered past and also nice bike lanes on green river.

Yes, I like riding my 23/25 road bikes to that point and then turning around for more of the roads in Corona Hills. If your really heroic like L'eroica riders then see how much dirt you can climb

Not that I saw in the app. I guess I just got lucky that the driver had a small SUV. I helped him figure out how to lay the seats flat, and everything worked out fine.
