Mirror for drop bars and bar end shifters?

Just curious, for those of you who use drop bars and bar end shifters, what sort of non-helmet mirror do you use? I didn't have much of an issue rigging up something that worked for me on my trekking bars, but I am having zero luck with this.

Do not over tighten it to the bars. A little slack lets it twist when you fall over.

Oh, that's tricky, since drop-bar mirrors typically want to be bar-end mounted. You might try something like this to mount the mirror adjacent to your bar-end.

There's no perfect solution to this problem. If you don't spend tons of time in the hooks, the Zefal Spy Bicycle Mirror is a decent option.

Though I use Neither, there are mirrors that attach to the brake lever bodies, and also those (#2) that wrap around the bar tube, any where you please.

I am deaf so really really depend on mirrors for safety. This is what I recommend, because you can move it around easily, no matter what your position on the bike.

Thanks for the replies. I like that Ortlieb, looks sturdier than the velcro attach ones I've tried in the place of that video.

That was actually my first thought, I know Mirrycle makes one for Shimanos, but they don't look like they are compatible with my TRP levers.

Interesting. I avoid the helmet mirrors, because frankly I treat my helmet like crap when it is not on my head, but maybe something like that would work well.

the Saf T Zone Mirror from EVT, in Vancouver WA, is pretty rugged..

the guy is a machinist, the adjustable bendy part is an adaptation of a flexible cutting oil hose..

He had an Aha/eureka! Moment... and combined it with a big mirror and a mount you zip tie to your helmet..

I used a Mirrcycle Road Mirror and adapted a reflector mount to mount the mirror to the bars. I posted pictures and a description here: https://www.bikeforums.net/18140599-post10.html

I have since replaced the acorn nut, with a wing nut, to make adjustments easier. You usually don't need to adjust, but do if the mirror get bumped hard.

Thanks. Nothing serious or broken thankfully, caught a rut in the ice at hockey and went down weird and tenderized it a bit. Should be back in full action by the end of next week, but sitting around doing nothing physical is driving me crazy!

Bike mirrors work only from one position - move to the drops, bar ends or aero bars and you lose the rear view. You may need more then one mirror for multiple bicycles.

Helmet mirrors are not without issues but they generally work better than bike mirrors. I've used the Cycleaware Reflex for over a decade now, it is a pretty good helmet mirror.

I use a Mountain Myrricle mounted on a light clamp under the brake hood. I can see behind from any riding position. This is an old pic, before I put it under the bar tape.

ultralight mirror = a few grams AND zero blind-spots:

@jefnvk --> it's a glasses-mirror NOT a helmet-mirror

That may be true for some, but is not the situation I have experienced. I'm able to see from all positions on my drop bars, and I have used 4 or 5 different mirror models all mounted at the end of my drop bars (no bar end shifters).

helmet mirrors can put out your eye in a crash

Good idea. I like the mirror up instead of at the bar end. Any idea how to mount a Cat Eye mirror like that?

I have one of these. This is not safety glass. If your face everhits the ground , it might break and scar your face, or put out your eye.

Ended up going this route. Gotta get a neoprene washer to put between the reflector mount and the mirror arm, as there isn't enough friction there to hold it in place, but other than that looks like a great solution sitting on the bike! Quick, easy, and my favorite: free, if you discount the previously wasted money!

True, but the second I forgot it was there and chucked m helmet in the backseat of my car, it'd no longer function as a mirror!

keep in mind that bikes can and do fall over once in a while, so with bar attached or hood attached mirrors, have them tight enough to stay in place properly, but not super tight, so that they can turn if the bike falls over. Back in the day, I had a velcro mounted hood mirror that worked reasonably well (dont like the wide angle effect of many mirrors, distance judgement harder) but because of the velcro, there was give the times the bike toppled onto that side.
